Well, finally after 24 business days, my number was ported to
Vonage
from Verizon. And because it was 4 days more than the 20 business days that
Vonage
promises, they credited my account for the extra days.
According to Verizon, they accepted the port request almost immediately after they received it. But since
Vonage
has so many port requests to do, I was put in line; first come first serve.
And it took 24 days to get to me,
Vonage
must be busy with alot of new customers that they can't handle the load at once.

Dan:
Its been a while since I've been in this furum, but I am preparing to call
Vonage
again today needed some ammo.
You asked me a question back on page 1 or 2 about area codes. Not only were all 3 number of the same area code, they awere all with the same company on the same bill. I don't know how they could have gotten it so messed up. As of now I still have no third line transferred. We're closing in on 4 months

If your transfer is smooth sailing then everything is a OK. However, if you hit a snag, the
Vonage
number portability group is of no use. The only kind of information they can give you is:
1. whether
Vonage
has received the proper paperwork from you.
2. whether they have sent it to their local carrier partner.
3. if they have a transfer date from their local carrier partner.
However, when there is a problem between the current phone company and Vonage's local carrier partner, the
Vonage
np group gives you absolutely NO information whatsoever, only canned answers like "we'll sent another request to the local carrier", or "call back next week", etc.
Arrgggr, that has been my experience. Anyone has a better impression with that
Vonage
np group in resolving issues for you ?
If AT&T comes on line with
Voip
, and if it costs only a few bucks more than
Vonage
, I'm ready to leave.

marsh - thanks for the report on no disconnection. looks like either you got lucky. or i got very unlucky.
waiting is not a problem. but a disconection of incoming call service during the transfer is criminal. i'm curious if anyone else had their old number go dead before
Vonage
kicked in.
(i'm talking about losing incoming calls on your old number.. i don't care about the virtual number - that only helps for ougoing calls.)
21 days for me:
January 31, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
February 01, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
February 02, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
February 12, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer
February 23, 2004 Completed LNP Transfer

Post subject: Good experience
A while ago, I asked if anyone had a good experience in Oakland with SBC or even a good experience at all. Since then, it looks like people's experiences have trended toward being a little better, which is heartening. Here was my experience:
February 15, 2004 - Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
February 16, 2004 - Transfer Sent to Carrier (SBC)
February 25, 2004 -
Vonage
Processing, says number will switch on 26th.
February 26, 2004 - Phone number successfully ported by evening.
I was really satisfied with the whole process. The only glitch was that
Vonage
fogot to assign a server to my account in the switch, so I had to spend 20 minutes w/ Tech Support. But, that's a small price to pay for the huge savings I'm now seeing.
I hope more people start having good experiences like this.
Take care,
/mike

My experience hasn't been as good, in fact I'm still waiting for a transfer date after
Vonage
received my LOA on Jan 26 (it's been 25 business days). My current service is with Comcast Digital Phone, via SBC of Illinois. A call to Comcast revealed that the work order was cancelled (!) on Feb. 19. I think
Vonage
is restarting the process all over in my case, which could mean another 20 business days. Not good. Hoping to get some refund from
Vonage
.
