did your number remain reachable throughout the transfer (between the 12th and 13th)?

i don't get it. are end users supposed to tolerate a disconnect of their phone number for 20 days during the transfer? that's insane. Do I have to let all my contacts know that "my number will be down for a month while
Vonage
and the carrier muck about with routing"?
Vonage
claims, in 2 separate emails, that the carrier is holding things up. If that is true, then I hope the FCC punishes the carrier. Either way I'm playing into the carrier's hands by posting this negative feedback. The carriers want their customers to think that porting phone numbers may result in random drops of service. I'm so miffed at the carrier that I still recommend porting numbers to
Voip
, despite my nightmare experience (which is not over).

Post subject: LNP Delay
My experience in number transfer on standard landline and cell phones has been that it happens in a couple of hours. But that is between 2 carriers. I don't believe that
Vonage
is a regulated carrier and as such cannot accept a number transfer directly. I believe they use Focal Communications as an intermediate carrier to do the number transfer with your carrier. That may be where some of the delay is. Most people I know have had to wait 2 months for the transfer to complete but to Vonages credit they do issue account credit for the delay.

at least your old service still works! What **** is when both the old service and the new service are not working - you lose all incoming phone calls to your old number. It's as if your number is hijacked or lost in the ether for 2 months. You might as well go on a hiking trip across Siberia since no one can reach you anyways.

Post subject: Very quick
Well I just completed my additional line LNP and here are the dates:
Feb 11, 2004 - Awaiting Authorization Letter
Feb 14, 2004 - LOA received
Feb 16, 2004 - Transfer sent to carrier
Feb 25, 2004 - Carrier approved transfer
Feb 26, 2004 - Transfer scheduled
That is much quicker than my initial line. Not sure why.
This line was held by SBC.

My number was reachable the whole time. I had called my house in the morning and was connected thru Verizon. When I called in the late morning only the
Vonage
phone rang.
