Michael, I'd give that
Vonage
866 number a call and see what my options are. I'd thought that porting numbers was now required by wireless and POTS providers, not dependent on any business relationship. Good luck.
I don't think there is a requirement that says they have to port wireless numbers to landline numbers.

One month after sending the fax etc I got an email that my number will be transferred on May 14. That day I lost my Verizon number and dial tone but that number has not yet been transferred on my
Vonage
line.(For anybody who has yet to sign up for voange when signing up always choose the option that you want to cahnge your landline number). Today talked to tech but nothing has yet been done. My friends/relatives are calling verizon number (we never gave out our temp
Vonage
number)
and get busy signal. Going through bad experience.

We had verizon number for more than 15 years and we had both verizon and
Vonage
line till May 14th and they said change will be on 14th so never thought of giving the
Vonage
number to friends etc.

I waited a few weeks to see if I liked
Vonage
before faxing the form. Got the LNP Approved email this morning. Called my SBC number from my cell phone and now it rings to
Vonage
! I am impressed....:

I am impressed with
Vonage
, only had one glitch in the beginning -- no stutter dialtone or MW light. It started working after a couple of days. Happy with the savings too. Last month I paid SBC $63 and AT&T $20. Now I have the cheapie
Vonage
plan and save over $60. Even bought a virtual number for back home. I do have trouble sending faxes with my fax modem so I bought an eFax line... still saving money! (but not as fast as my wife can spend it) But at least she can talk on the phone cheap.

My number got changed with
Vonage
too. I have learnt one thing that I can share with those who have not yet signed up with
Vonage
. When signing up for the service, if there is a slight chance, that you will transfer your old number to
Vonage
, check that option in the very beginning. If you have done this then when the time comes for number change it will be automatic; you just reboot and there you have the new number.
In my case I thought let me try
Vonage
first; so on Friday my Verizon number was disconnected, I lost the dial tone but the verizon number was not automatically changed to
Vonage
. In fact I had to request tech to write a new tickst before it was finally changed today Tuesday.
Vonage
is real excellent in all respects except for International Calls to a few countries. If those problems are fixed and Skype does not come in the competition (www.skype.com has Triple Excellent Plus sound quality but is only PC to PC at the moment) then
Vonage
is the best game in town.

I wouldn't say it is "automatic" when you request the transfer with your initial order. I requested my number to be ported when I first ordered
Vonage
. It's now been almost 4 months.

Nevermind, I think you were talking about the actual transfer when it happens.
