March 13, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 16, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 19, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
May 3, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer
May 4, 2004 Completed LNP Transfer
Definitely not 20 days like they said, but I'm sure it was just slowness on Frontier's part. They had to get one more billing cycle in

December 19: Awaiting Letter of Authorization
December 22: Letter of Authorization received
January 5: Transfer sent to carrier
January 19: Carrier approved transfer (scheduled 01/22)
January 23: E-mail from
Vonage
: transfer not completed; port pushed out
February 28: E-mail from me: what's the status?
February 29: E-mail from
Vonage
: checking status
April 2: Phone call from me: what's the status? ("Dunno. We'll credit your account.")
April 5: E-mail from
Vonage
: checking status
April 23: Phone call from me: what's the status? (Left message with LNP team; no response.)
May 7: Phone call from me: cancel account
So now, exactly 100 business days since
Vonage
received the LOA, the subscription has been canceled.
I've received the RMA to return the Motorola MTA.
Vonage
promises to issue a credit for the termination charge, and for the months we were subscribed to the service, once they have received the device. (Note that the credit promised on April 2 was never issued.)
I wish we'd had the opportunity to try
Voip
after all these months of waiting; I've heard that it's quite nice. Clearly, though,
Vonage
is just not ready for prime time. I only hope that they will indeed issue the credits to our account, so that I can at last be rid of these bumbling idiots.

Not that this has much relevence, but have you noticed that when you send a message to
Vonage
via e-mail, the response doesn't have the original message attached or quoted?

This sounds almost exactly like my experience. Check out my post "Number Transfer Nightmare - Need Advice".
What POTS carrier do you have? I have Bellsouth. The "we're checking emails are really getting to me". I may have to cancel like you have. I wonder if customers of other
Voip
companies have similar bad experiences. Maybe I should just try Voicepulse or one of the serveral other companies.

Do I have a new record here?
I was using Verizon in upstate NY. Everything seems to be working fine now.

Transfer Sent to Carrier
Today May 13, 2004
Hello,
I am contacting you in regards to your number transfer. At this time
Vonage's partner carrier, Focal, does not have an interconnection
agreement with your wireless provider. Due to this matter Focal cannot
place the transfer request. Unfortunately until this agreement in
established by US Cellular your number transfer will be stalled.
Sincerely,
Vonage

Michael, I'd give that
Vonage
866 number a call and see what my options are. I'd thought that porting numbers was now required by wireless and POTS providers, not dependent on any business relationship. Good luck.
