How can we expect to drop our Bell line when the Canadian Vonage POP appears to be in the US making Canadian only 800 numbers unreachable?
Very happy with the Vonage service however when attempting to reach Canadian Companies who only list an 800 (877 etc) number we are told the number is unreachable from this area.
Anyone know when Vonage plans to connect locally in Ontario? |

Its not just Ontario numbers, it is pretty much any Canada based toll free number (800, 866, 877). Try calling any Canada govt office with the toll free number and you will get a message saying it is not available. You have to call the direct numbers if you can find them.
Hopefully they resolve this soon as some direct numbers are almost impossible to come by, I recently had to call CIC (immigration) and had some real problems finding the number as no 866 or 800 numbers would work. Also had some problems contacting my cable company as they have a 1800 number as well.
Please get this fixed soon Vonage, |

did you find a number for CIC? I have a toronto, Vancouver and montreal local number for them, but none work, the TO one says it's been changed to 1-888-242-2100.. the mont and vanc. dont' do ****, just go fast busy..
so we have to use the cell to call them, which isnt' a big deal either I guess.. |

Have not found the numbers, gave up. Wife just needed to get something updated / changed but its been in error for years so its not a rush anyways.
Hopefully they fix this soon as some of those numbers are quite important. |

When I asked Vonage Canada this question, the PR department replied that a Canadian call server would be added "later this year". Alot is happening at Vonage Canada this year so we'll just need to be patient a little longer.
Most Canadian companies have a local presence somewhere with a local number but federal government agencies can be tough. 1-800-O-Canada (1-800-622-6232) is reachable however. They'll likely be able to transfer you to the department that you want. This is the "general number" for Government of Canada services. I tested it and it works. The line is open 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, Eastern Time. |

It takes a little detective work but most companies and government agencies have an alternate number. Post the companies or agencies that you can't reach. Chances are, someone in the forum will be able to track it down.
Government of Canada: 1-800-622-6232 (verified) |

Well, its now APRIL 2007 and this problem is still not solved. I just spent 2 hours attempting to return a call to Revenue Canada. The 888 number was not working from Vonage.
I spoke to about 20 people to no avail. Then I found this thread with the 800-622-6232, where someone answered. Gave ma another 800 and from there a 418 number.
I think that 2 years after the thread got started, it would be about time Vonage corrects the problem. This is a simple re-direct from their US servers to a Canadian dispatch server or proxy. |

I have called Revenue Canada tele file number and it worked. I tried the number a few weeks later and it didn't work. Then later on it did work. There is a thread regarding toll free numbers in Canada on here already. |
