I am on my second RT31P2 from Vonage having spent 1 hr + on phone with service rep a few days ago which resulted in them replacing the router. I have had the same issue with both routers. My internet access is excellent - Brighthouse Road Runner. I had Brighthouse out yesterday and everything checked out normal after a thorough going over. Re-booting the RT31P2 sometimes results in service for a few minutes, never more than an hour or so. I always get a dial tone, but can seldom receive or send calls. The #1 phone line light on the RT31P2 is infrequently on, if ever. I have the cable modem plugged into the RT31P2 and then into my Netgear wireless router and then to the computer. This yields fine internet access, but no phone service. My frustration level is rising and unless I can get help in a few days, I am going to cancel Vonage. |

I will reply to my own message. I spent over an hour with a Vonage rep on the phone yesterday with the result that my service is now working. Adjustments in ports, etc were what it took. I must say that the two sessions I have had with reps, while lengthy, were very thorough and resulted in positive outcomes both times. My frustration has dissolved into contentment. |

howgreen,
I'm assuming that the main reason for your intermittent service is because you had the rt31p2 behind your wireless router. This always requires some tweaking such as port forwarding since the rt31p2 is not the controling router. I hope you can post your tweaks for other people's benefits. |
