I am trying to upgrade to an 802.11G Router. I got the Netgear WGR614 since Vonage recommends Netgear and I have had very good luck with my old Netgear router. Well it is giving me trouble straight out with the Wireless and i want to look elsewhere Quickly! I have read in the forums that Linksys has trouble with Vonage. I have the Cisco ATA (and it has worked flawlessly so I do not want to change from it. What Wireless 802.11G routers are people using out there (preferably with the Cisco)? And how much trouble or lack there of are you having? |

Exactly what type of problems are you experiencing? The reason I ask is that there is a known issue when using certain cordless phones around an 802.11 wireless network. Apparently, 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz phones can be disrupted by the wireless network (and possibly other household devices such as microwave ovens). It may be possible that the wireless network could be disrupted by the phone as well.
Here is another thread that discusses this type of problem:

I am using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router but i'm on the Motorola VT1005, I have had no problems with it at all. As for the Linksys Router has been great right from the day I bought it, I had a Netgear Wireless B that I dumped because of constant problems with it. I am using a Sony 2.4Ghz Cordless and a Motorola 2.4Ghz corless and neither gives me problems since I dumped the router on channel 4. All in all I love this setup, I have a cisco ATA for my business but it doesn't run into a wireless router it's hooked to a siemen's router and works great after the port forwarding was setup. One thing I give the Motorola/Linksys setup was I just plugged it in and it works well both incoming and outgoing no port forwarding nothing. |

I was using an SMC Access Point connected to the Netgear Router. The SMC was 802.11B. The new netgear is 802.11g. The problems were signal from wireless would just cut out then it might come back on its own or I might need to reboot the router. The laptop (using 802.11b) would take forever to load a web page if it would load at all. I just changed the router to channel 7, It was channel 11 and poof, all problems disappeared. Now seems perfect. i will test it for a while, if all OK then it stays otherwise i am looking for recommendations. |
