PostPosted: Tue Jun 14, 2005 1:11 pm    Post subject: WinMX barely working RT31P2 Reply with quote Back to top

So here is my problem. Im using the RT31P2 Cisco/Linksys router and am trying to run WinMX. I have done port forwarding for both ports that WinMX uses (6699 and 6257) setting them up for both TCP and UDP. I can get WinMX to do a primary connection but no chats are available and search strings that used to result in thousands of results are now only showing up with at most 250 nearly all of them available (normally less than 1% are currently available for DL). People cannot DL form me and I cannot UL from them. I have gone through the router admin website and done virtually everything I can think of to get this to work again form UPnP to DMZ setups and nothing works. If anybody know how to fix this problem please let me know I completely oblivious as to how to fix the problem. COMP: Win XP w/ SP1, 2.08 Gig processor, Nvidia Geforce 4 vid, 512 ram. if you need any further info just ask

Part of the problem is that WinMX is getting flooded with fake files. Right-click and whois a search result; if it says "3000 files" it's probably a fake.

no its not a fake file thing, I've spent my time on WinMX and know how to find those and who is sharing them. It jsut seems like the vast majority of the search results are not getting through. I agree it seems odd that all I can get are peopel who are obviously faking (3000 of the same file name in diff sizes) If I search for "movie" I should get roughly 14000+ results, not the 300 Im getting. I dunno

If you run through the wizard, does it say that your TCP and UDP ports really are open?

yup the ports are open. WinMX would't do anyhitng period until I did open them. Without tehm open it required a secondary connection but witht them open I can do a primary connection

I just ran a net tester and found that my comp was not responding to TCP or UDP packages being sent. I have set up the ports on the admin page of Vonage and even went through a tutorial to make sure it was done correctly (specifically for WinMX) and Im stil getting nothing, seems like Im more lost than I thought
