Greetings,
Here's a fairly frustrating situation. I recently purchased a WRT54GP2 and carried it with me overseas for use with my broadband service. On the first day, everything worked. My network setup is as follows:
DSL modem, using PPPoE - connected to my DSL line DSL modem also performs NATting, the private network address is 192.168.7.x DSL modem's internal network address is 192.168.7.3
WRT54GP2 sits on my internal network, as 192.168.7.43 (on the Internet/WAN port). There are no hosts on the internal network of the WRT54GP2. The only other wire going is the RJ11 Phone1 port to my phone.
Everything worked on the first day - after a few seconds the Phone1 light glowed, and I also made and received many phone calls.
8 hours down the road, I notice that the Phone1 light is off. No dialtone.
I tried all the usual stunts:
Reset the WRT54GP2 - hard and soft
Reconfigured the whole thing after pressing and holding down the reset button at the back
Looked at the router status from the Voice tab: "Router still restarting. Please wait a moment." Been that way for hours.
Ensured that Internet connectivity was working
Performed tftp tftp.vonage.net tftp> get test Received 5 bytes in 0.4 seconds tftp> quit
Performed a packet trace: U 192.168.7.43:4250 -> 192.43.244.18:123 ........................................~....... U 192.168.7.43:4250 -> 220.130.158.52:123 ........................................~....... U 192.168.7.43:4250 -> 202.39.157.151:123 ........................................~....... In short, all the packet trace shows is the WRT54GP2 doing NTP calls.
So here I am, everything else is working but the Phone1 light. I've sent two emails already to Vonage tech support - seem to have gone to /dev/null. I'm overseas, so calling Vonage tech support will bleed me.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -- Saumil |

I don't know all the tech lingo, but my WRT54GP2 was loosing LAN connection repeatedly every 30 minutes or so. Once or twice a week I loose WAN for periods up to a couple hours or so. I turned off UPnP in the router and my LAN is stable now, but I still loose internet and phone for those brief periods a couple times weekly. If I turn off wireless it comes back on, and turning wireless back on wipes out the WAN and phone. Seems like interference and I have tried all different channels with no relief. Sorry to not have any help. |

Here's one possible solution to your problem, try doing the power cycle to all your networking device. After the power cycle, make sure that internet connection is still active through your wrt54gp2. Now, forward these ports on your gateway for the ip address of your wrt54gp2: 5060, 5061, 53, 69 and 10000-20000. If your wrt54gp2 is not directly connected to your gateway, make sure to forward the ports to all of the device where your wrt54gp2 is connected before it reaches your gateway. I hope it works, Good luck! |
