The following LNP transfer pace that I experienced appeared reasonable compared to other posts I have read:

May 24, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
May 24, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
May 25, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
May 27, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
May 31, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
June 8, 2005 Carrier Approved Transfer
June 10, 2005 Completed LNP Transfer

Unfortunately, since the "Completed" LNP Transfer occurred on June 10th, anyone dialing my ported # from a non-VOIP phone gets the following message:

"The number you have reached, XXX-XXXX in area code 212 has been disconnected. No further information is available at this time"

Note that I can dial out using Vonage's Voip.

At least a half dozen calls to Vonage CS and two tickets have not been able to solve the problem. The wait time to speak to a Rep. is typically 15~20 minutes. Nor have I been given any definitive information on resolution. I have also contacted Excel Communications, my previous local service provider, who have completely washed their hands of any responsibility, since their records indicate that the account has been disconnected. I assume that the problem rests with Verizon, the RBOC in NYC, but I have no account relationship with them.

One other fact. There is a second phone line (mainly used for faxes) involved and the carrier (Excel) hasn't approved the transfer of that number yet.

Help!!

I am in LNP purgatory. This can't continue to go on indefinitely with the world at large thinking that I have disconnected my phone service.

Any suggestions out there???

PS - Problem solved.

6 days later, I can finally receive incoming calls on line 1, coincidently, the same day my 2nd line transferred.

Warning to anyone transferring two lines - Make sure the transfer date is the same for both lines, otherwise the first line may remain in limbo (unable to receive inbound calls) until the 2nd line is transferred.

It's amazing that no one @ Vonage CS or Tech support, despite multiple phone calls and e-mails, was able to identify or explain this potential problem.

I did manage to get 1 month of Vonage free for my aggravation. Hardly worth the price of having to explain to my wife why we were without phone service for nearly a week.
