Just got off the phone with sky and they have sorted the situation. I advised them that i have a voip line and that without the *99 prefix i cannot dial back to them and that i need an EXCLUSION on my boxes. They said that if i could prove this was case that the box needed *99 to be able to dial back they would apply an exclusion and refund the extra subscription payments already taken. So i called back and referred the rep in sky customer care (I will give the number at the end) to http://www.vonage.co.uk/help.php?article=922 and they placed the exclusion and credited my account. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Sky customer care can be contacted on 0207 7053000, ask for customer care.

Damn it why didn't I read this thread before I phoned up Sky and ordered it. Just had a very annoyed engineer leave here in a huff. We tried and tried but no call back was going to happen. He had a nightmare with the cabling because we're on a boat and then for the phone not work he was pissed. The only way around it would have been to pay the £25 fee for no phone line WHAT A JOKE what on earth is the £25 quid for. Strangly anough my cards didn't work so I couldn't make the payment the engineer grabbed the box and done a runner. Now I need to find out whats up with me cards great.
When trying to make the calls I got different call lengths so it seems it can connect see here,

04/04/06 14:17 448081008028 Free 00:00:40
What my theory on this is maybe it's not a simple as just slowing it down because maybe it needs a perfect stream of data the trouble is with our connections is the bandwidth can go up and down hence lack of a decent stream. Normal phone lines don't have such a problem to a degree. So can anyone further this.

It's a shame Sky are not as technically able as BT. We have a monitored alarm system from BT, having connected the system to the Vonage line it worked without any problems and is relaying it's data to BT's monitoring centre.

Maybe Sky should take some tips from BT.

I have now had a vonage line for a month and my Sky box cannot comunicate down a vonage line it dials out and connects the call acording to vonage so i have been charged a wonderfull sum of over 20 quid for trying to connect to Sky Gamestar it is about time that vonage realise if they want sales in the UK they have to provide services and not lie to potential customers at the sales end just to get a sale........ Cry

The reason why Sky refuses a connection from a Vonage number is quite simple, it is to prevent Sky's encrypted subscriptions leaking into geographical areas that Sky has not paid the rights for.

If anyone can work out how to stop UK Vonage telephone numbers that are physically outside of UK from connecting to Sky, then I'm certain that Sky would listen.

Until them, I'm afraid that Sky and Vonage will remain strangers.

Hi guys,

Honestly its about time both Vonage and Sky understand that this is causing a lot of problems with their customers. I called BT today and guess what! The answer was that it should work with any line in the UK. I specifically asked for Vonage and he said that he hadn't heard of it but surely , If it was British telcom provider it should work.
Tomorrow is my Sky installation I shall wait for the engineer to come and start work with the installation. If he refuses to install and charge me 25£ , I shall show him the *99 prefix which is required to make the box work. If he still refuses I guess I will take the matter up with SKY. But its about time our voices are heard

Vonage on the other hand should increase the modem speed and that way both sky and vonage would benefit.

Now my question is when the engineer refuses to install what actions should I Take?
I need sky as NTL is not operating in my area. I would also quite Vonage and move over to FREECALL.COM VOIP which doesn't charge any rental.
Anyhow please do provide me with some answers. Very Happy
