Hey, ok, I use Rogers Cable and have 2 digital terminals, and modem..
for the longest tiem I had no problems, now my one digital terminal, which is a newwer model then my other one will kick the audio off after 2 or 3 minutes of watching a program, especially on Video ONDemand, if I change the channel then come back it's good again for another few minutes then it does it again..
so yesteday I thought, maybe it's my cabling in teh basement, since Rogers didnt' install it, it was already run when I moved in, so I was checkign my cables, and I got a pretty good shock from touching the centre solid wire in my coaxial cable that is conencted only to my problem terminal.. the terminal was UNplugged from house current! thats the big shocker there, lol, I grounded the terminals out thinking maybe htere was a capacitor holding a charge, the intensity of the shock was reduced after this, but I could still feel it, (I was in bare feet on cement floor) I did not have a DVOM or i woudl have tried to check how much Voltage was on my line..
now my question is, is this normal? I know that the digital terminal comunicates back with Rogers Cable, but when it's unplugged should there be a voltage present? and should it be enough to feel a shock?? could this be part of my problem? or do I just have crappy cabling running to that particular terminal?? (this is very possible it looks like some aftermarket cable)
it used to be that I could re-boot my terminal and it would be ok for a few more days, but this doesn't work anymore..
there are 2 error messages on the "Black Screens" that are accessible by holding the centre button on the from of the terminal in until msg light blinks.. they say "skipping invalid parameter" and some other crap, gives the boot time as the error time..
I'm avoiding calling Rogers cuz they'll come in and try and charge me and get mad cuz this house is actually 2 apt's but we're splitting the bill and cable/internet, rather than us each pay $130/mo we pay $65 each |

I have no idea really. It could possibly be a bad digital terminal. I had my HDTV one go bad on me. Do you own your digital box? I'm in the US and most digital boxes are issued directly by the cable operator. Therefore it's usually just a matter of a tech swapping the out the old box for a new one.
It's also possible that you might be able to swap your box out at your local Rogers office. |
