I am praying that someone out there can help me. I got my Linksys RT31P2 router from Vonage last Wednesday. I installed it, but cannot get a phone light, or a dial tone. In addition, I cannot even login or ping the router to configure it!! I thought the router was dead, so I got another one...but same thing. My internet connection works fine, just no VoIP. I have no firewall or extra routers. I have tried using different phones, each with the same result.
What am I doing wrong? I read that the router itself will give dial tone- so what I am doing? I am using Mac OS X as the operating system, but I know others that do the same- that shouldn't be the issue.
Please, someone help! I can't afford any more cell phone calls to the Indian wizards that always make me start from the beginning...my sanity is on the line here... |

Wow- thanks for the quick reply...although I thought I did post my setup. Here it is:
- DSL/phone line from wall goes into Speedstream DSL modem
- Ethernet cable goes from DSL modem into Internet jack on Linksys RT31P2 router
- Phone plugged into Phone 1 jack on router
- Ethernet cable goes from Ethernet 1 jack on router to my Mac
- power plugs for each, etc.
- My DSL is connected to Bell high spped via a PPPoE connection, with a username and password required
- no firewall or other routers
Again, please, anyone- HELP! |

When I enter 192.168.15.1, nothing happens. My browser just hangs until it times out. I am using the correct power supply as well. |

hmm...ok, well, I find some things a little weird. you should definitely be able to access that page. also, I wonder how the rt31p2 was setup for pppoe (not to mention the correct username and password) without you doing it through its internal site. obviously something is working since you say internet works. what is the ip of your mac? 192.168.15.100 or something else? |

According to my Network settings, my IP address is 64.230.74.184. It also claims that it sees a router, and that its address is 64.230.197.118...but i cannot get anywhere by entering that into my browser either. |

is the Ethernet cable from the modem connected in the router's WAN port? |

he said it was in the internet port which is the same thing.
tubby: ok...well, your router is being completely bypassed if you are in fact hooked up as you posted. I have no idea how or why, but I would disconnect all cords from the rt31p2 with the exception of power and mac to ethernet1. then release and renew your ip and see what you get. |

It sounds like you're using PPPoE software on your computer, and it's working because the RT31P2 has PPPoE passthrough.
So, get rid of the PPPoE software on your computer, and instead set up PPPoE at the 192.168.15.1 address. |
