I'm wondering why Vonage is not available in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Alaska? Are there plans to move into those areas? |

I think it has alot to do about economics. Those states are probably the 3 least populated states in the US. |

They are on the lower end of populous states, but that's a bad reason not to even consider going there. Maybe a rep can post their thoughts because real people do live in those very real states. |

ya no kidding. I have relatives in MT and ID and I would quickly add a vitual number for them if they had Voange available there. But I guess my additional 10bucks a month isnt enough to cover the expansion. |

In response to your question about why there is no service currently in the "white states", meaning the states where there is no orange indicator on our site as to us associating service with, the fact is, there is currently just no AREA CODES that we offer locally out of those states. This means we currently do not have a presence with a CLEC in your local area... or "rate center" from whom we purchase area code and prefix listings from. This continues to change with every day that passes, and we always are updating our databases with more area codes frequently. You may still purchase and use the Vonage service, you just will not have a local number to your area code currently. I know this poses an inconvenience for your family and friends who might be calling you, but we are working hard on aquiring new area codes soon. I hope this clears up any questions. |

I just signed up for Vontage and then tried for a virtual phone number in 304 area code - not available. So I tried Lingo with the same request - seems that it is available from Lingo. So, do I cancel the Vontage and go with Lingo? Vontage rep, what do you say? |

It took awhile to get to iowa, but they finally did. I wondered more if it isnt tied to the % of high speed internet users. If a state has poor high speed service or users, vonage would be useless. |

Sidewinder: why do people call vonage vonTage? the t isn't anywhere close to the n or a so it's a deliberate spelling, I just never have understood why.
and isn't that decision up to you? if you were in sales and someone said "should I go with your company or a competitor?" what would you say? |

its because the majority of those states do not have high quality broadband, or mostly remote areas which supply satellite connections only. therefore the cost of going into that market -vs- the profit we would make is not a big difference (from my point of view) |
