To get Vonage through the whole house, I'm thinking of getting some cordless phones, a series, where one is connected to the router and the other cordless sets just need a/c power plug. I'd probably need 4 phones total to cover the house. I was wondering what others do? What phones they like & use? Or other suggestions on vonage-ing the whole house. I was going to try just unhooking the main land line wires from the house and plugging the Vonage onto the wall to supply all phones, but I dont think the router has enough current to ring that many wired phones. It looks like the router has enough to power one phone per router connection. Unless theres some device to up the ringer power from the router? |

you can connect to the whole house, there's a million ppl who are doing this, and that many threads around this board with different ways of doing this.. I have my house wired up this way, works great..
i think it was mentioned a few times, that the ATA's should power approx 4-5 phones depending on how new/old they are, most newer phones require less power to make them ring..
as for cordless phones, I personally like Uniden, I've had a few of these, and they always work great.. even teh cheapo ones work good, the expensive ones with multiple handsets are great, they can even be used as 'walkie-talkies' b/t each other.. |

| Quote: | | What phones they like & use? | I have beem using a single 900mhz cordless for months with no problems. Last week I bought a pair of cordless Uniden model DXI 5586-2 phones. These are 5.8 Ghz phones. They are full of static and noise when I get more then 50 feet from my computer. I am going to return them if I can figure out how to get them all packaged up in the box again and look for a pair of 900Mhz phones. |

I currently use the VTech 5857 for one of my Vonage telephones with no issues. I love the blinking on the handset for the voicemail indicator as well as the base unit. The color display is rather nice as well. Phone features picture caller id as well as callwaiting ID for use with Vonage service. Also has great ringtones and you can import any song or voice for a ringtone. Bought the phone at radioshack. You can find info on it by clicking the model number of the phone above. Here is a pic of it below.

I'm using the PAP2 and have my whole house wired up using 7 phones. I have no issues at all and all phones always ring. I recommend the Uniden TRU-8860 for a cordless phone. I upgraded my previous phones since my wireless connection was getting knocked off whenever the phone rang. The Uniden TRU-8860 are great phones...crystal clear sound, small handsets, v-mail indicator light works fine with Vonage and a great price too.

I'm also using VTech cordless phones - three VTi5801 handsets scattered around the house, with a VTi5881 base. Does exactly what you describe - works great! The color display on the 5801 is excellent, and loaded with features. I particularily like the intercom and hands free speakerphone features in addition to those mentioned by KDWycha.

Yes the speakerphone is great when waiting on hold for 50 mins to speak to a Vonage representative. Also the intercom is nice when I am on the back porch smoking a cig. I can turn the intercom on and watch TV through the patio doors and hear the sound |

I have a big problem with vtech. I've owner 3 and all had awful static and poor sound. I once bought a $200 vtech with every feature you can imagine, and talking caller id, direct from qwest. It was awful. So bad, everyone complained to me for buying it, and you couldn’t hear the other person most of the time. I missed the 14-day return period, and after 6 months actually threw this phone in the trash. My fault for not getting with it and sending it back, when I could. But with vtech, three times and there out.
But I appreciate all input, but will probably go with Uniden. I've had good luck with them in the past. |

I could understand your frustration with VTech. I bought a 900 mhz one in the past and the sound was horrible on it. Returned it to the store and got an AT&T. I think VTech finally got it right with the 2.4GHZ Digital phones. |

Does anyone use the uniden 648 cordless phones? These come in a 3-pack for around $100. But it also has its own answering machine. Vonage has its own answering system too. These 648 phones have a "message waiting" light, I guess for messages on the uniden answer machine. I wonder if this message waiting light also comes on if you have voice mail on the Vonage system? I kinda like having the uniden answering machine, besides the Vonage voice mail, for those times you want to monitor callers messages. The uniden 648 also has its own "do not disturb" feature that I really need. But my big question, is if the message waiting light works with voice mail too? |
