I am planning on jumping on the Vonage bandwagon, but first I have a question in regards to my wireless router. I have a Linksys cable modem and a WRT54G wireless router. The router feeds my PC via ethernet, and my laptop via wi-fi. Will the phone adaptor that is provided by Vonage integrate well with my existing hardware? If so, here are some specific questions.

1. Will I be able to use softphone both on my P.C. via the ethernet connection and on my laptop via wi-fi?

2. If yes to question # 1, then in what order would I wire everything?

3. I am cluless about IP addresses. I see them mentioned alot in the forums. What will I need to know if anything?

FYI..Don't know if this makes a difference but both of my computers use seperate firewalls that are on each individual harddrive. I don't use the firewall available with the modem/router.

Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.

so you actually go through the trouble of turning off firewall features of the wrt? why?
at any rate, a search would reveal the wrt54g is the router of choice, and works great. put it first in line (plug the vonage device into it) and setup qos and you should be golden as long as you have a good isp.
I'm not familiar with softphones, but it will be up to you to open the ports for it. I assume it can be used on multiple computers, but I'm not sure about it.
it should pretty much be plug n play, but learning a little bit about ip's will help (especially when you want to access the internal web page of the rt31p2 with no computers hooked up to it)

Thank You. Sounds pretty straight forward. Can anyone tell me if set up this way if I'll be able to utilize softphone on both my P.C. and my wi-fi laptop?

Thanks.

I have the same equipment and connected the Linksys vonage adapter into one of the WRT54G ports. Regarding softphone, it will work fine provided that the firewalls you are using are setup allow the softphone to acces the net.
