Hello...
I installed my new WRT54G w/ Vonage Service. Everything works except one thing. My last step was to get my Tivo back on the wireless network.
Well, no love, it connects to my network and passes every test except that I simply cannot connect to the Tivo service any longer. I get a "Negotiation Failed" message every time I try.
I have opened, per Tivo customer support ports 2190 TCP/UDP, 8080-8089 TCP, 37 TCP, 123 TCP. However, this didn't help at all and seemed rather excessive to boot.
I am seeking any possible assistance. I've tried most of what I could think of and I'll contact the router vendor (Linksys) and/or Vonage as well of course.
Thank you in advance.

What wireless adapter are you using with your TiVo? |

Linksys WUSB11 v2.8
It worked w/ the previous Linksys Router. As mentioned, I get connected to the router, get a proper IP, IP config, and wireless tests from the TiVo all pass their tests. All looks a go... Then, I try to connect to the service and it's a no-go, "negotiation failed." I'm kind of stuck at the moment on this one.. |

Well, I found a temporary solution I don't care for much. Buy moving the device (The TiVO) into the DMZ it connected just fine and downloaded the necessary information.
So, I guess I just need to figure out what this new router is not letting pass through that I didn't open already. Seemes like I opened enough though honestly...

It certainly seems like you opened enough to me. At first I thought it might be a port conflict with the Vonage service, but if moving it to the DMZ works then that can't be it.
You could run ethereal and see what ports are in use during the TiVo call. |

Go to Linksys and get the latest patch to the WRP54G. According to the release notes, there's a "fix for Voip issues" in the latest patch 3.0.3.03.6. That may fix your problems |

I was having the same problem, but when trying to put the initial setup call through. I just kept trying (about 10+ times) and it finally went through.
Strange.

Well, you know, after reading that I decided to move it back in from the DMZ, turn off ALL of the open ports, and generally just put it on my own network w/ no special treatment. The result...
Now, out of the blue, it works fine. Disconcerting, but good I suppose.
I didn't do anything really. It just started working. Now, yesterday, my Tivo rebooted for no good reason too. That has never happened to the best of my knowledge.
Interesting... |
