Ok, heres the deal.

I just got Vonage today. They mailed me their own router (I already had one), except theirs had a phone jack as we all know.

I setup the router they gave me and the phone works! Good, right? Well, now my internet is dragging! I did a speed test with speakeasy and its saying I am getting 20k per sec! My max SHOULD be 600k!

I switched it out with my old router (which is also linksys) and I am back at max speed. The Vonage sales person said this would not effect my connection at all. Whats the deal? Is this a bad router? Did I miss a setting? Thats rediculous that is cuts down my speed over 90%

I apologize if this insults your intelligence, but did you reboot your cable modem and allow it to synch up before connecting the router? Also, have you tried resetting the router back to a factory default?

I cancelled my service. And yes, I rebooted. I do not accept the fact that I need to manually adjust the MTU size in order to get only half of my speed back. Tech support was no help at all, so I'm going to try out Skype Smile

you should have just piggy backed the Vonage router to the existing router, that's what I did, and everything works fine

You need to set up the router. Open the ports for the internet to work correctly. Open IE and type " http://192.168.1.1 " and then the password is admin. Once you go in there goto port forwarding and correct the problem. Took me about a week to get my internet running right, Vonage is great though. I wouldn't cancel that fast, actually I wouldn't cancel at all. Ask me if you need any help, I know a lot about it.

nah, i decided to cancel and use skype.

I dont feel like supporting a company who's tech support couldnt figure that out, along with having a tough time understanding them due to their accents

you'll get accents with any company even Dell. but if you aren't smart enough to figure it out, I guess you should goto another company.

Exactly...yet again someone else coming on to the forum, complaining about the service, not even giving it 24 hours here on the forum, then going right to competition....For someone to not even really wait for a solution and say immediately they are going to cancel their service, sounds like someone trolling for the competition...

Yes its strange. I just got mine, hooked it up, and swear my pc internet is faster than ever. Vonage sounds great, perfect quality and best of all, perfect reliability. I've been testing in-out going calls (my new hobby toy) and all works flawless. Sure beats $80 a month to qwest. Actually I'm a little paranoid. Vonage seems too good to be true. I kinda expect companies like qwest to try to kill Voip. All they'd need is a friendly congressman willing to take huge campaign donations in return. Delay?

I have had a pretty good overall Vonage experience..I don't have a POTS line at all, and have two Vonage lines with the Linksys router. Sure there are issues from time to time, but you can't beat $50 a month for two lines and no long distance charges...especially with all of the features they offer...
