It is easy to read about problems, and all companies have those. What I am looking for is 'GOOD REPORTS' - and those good experiences with Vonage.
I am so tired of high land line bills, but I need to hear what is good about Voip before I make the jump - so please give some input.
Thanks BamaPanda - Andrew in AL |

those are around too. try the search if you haven't yet and the reviews page would be especially useful. |

Tried the search - with little to no results. Can you point me to the reviews you mention? I have done a Google on Voip reviews and got some info - I was just wanting some first hand experience.
Logic tells me that many are having good success with Vonage or they would not be there and growing as they are.
Thanks |

What's to review about a telephone line? They either work or they don't. Mine worked as soon as I took the adapter Vonage sent out of the box and plugged it in. Been working every since. The cost is exactly what Vonage said it would be. The only complaint is that they do not yet offer my area code. |

there are lots of good things,
-no LD charges -low international rates -you can pick your number from many different cities -have a second, or third, or 4th, etc, number for local incomming calls from friends around the country -you can take your phone number with you to many places around the world and keep your local number -there are lots of pluses, a few minus's, but for the price, you can't beat it for sure!! |

BarnaPanda,
I will testify that my experience with Vonage has been positive. Even with young children and a 911 service that is not perfect (though it will be getting better soon), I would strongly recommend it. I just do not see the need to give money away. I already had cable high speed internet service and so it was the next logical step. I have experienced some occasional breakup of the sound but nothing that I haven't heard before. I have experienced far worse with cell phones and they certainly aren't afraid to charge a bundle.
To make a long story short, I ordered my rt31p2 on a Friday night around 7pm and it left that night and came via DHL/USPS on Tuesday. I cannot complain. It worked right out of the box and has not failed me yet.
If you are afraid of the minute usage just sign up for the $24.99 unlimited. B/c my wife has a cell, I went with the $14.99 and haven't gone over the limit yet. Even if I do, it will take a lot of minutes to get to the next level. Imagine, in order for me to pay for an additional $10 @ 3.9 cents a minute, I would have to call an additional 256 minutes over my 500 minute limit. Can't beat that.
My only hesitations would be if I have unreliable internet service or if my local number is not available. I have heard that some local companies are very reluctant to port their numbers (i.e. Verizon). In my case, SBC was responsible and allowed it happen in 1 month's time.
Hope this helps, mundy5 |

SBC = Southern Bell / South Central Bell ?? So it is somewhat dependent on your local carrier letting the line be used, right?
Thanks for the info. |

SBC doesn't stand for anything anymore. It's just "SBC Communications." We've got SBC here in Michigan. We used to have Ameritech, and way before that we had Michigan Bell. |
