Post subject: RT31P2 and MAC address clone
I didn't see anything specific enough to help me with my problem when I searched...
my ISP is through the apartment building, I don't have a modem for service, I just plug a RJ45 cable into the wall and go. The one requirement they do have is only one MAC address, so I have to use a clone of my laptop onto the telephone adapter.
my problem is this: I'm getting frequent disconnects, and once a month or so it will completely shut down and can't be restarted through normal restarting/resetting. what I've found is that the router stop cloning the MAC address, so my ISP shuts off access until I can get back into the router config and re-enable the cloning.
I have not changed any settings other than the MAC clone on the router.
Has anyone else had this problem? is there a potential fix to it? Is it just that I have a bad router? could my ISP be making this worse (I suspect many of the disconnects are their fault).
I do have a linksys WRT54G router that I no longer use, I could through that into the mix if it'd help (although I don't see how it would)
thanks for any help/ideas, let me know if you need more info from me.
