I guess I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. I first thought SoftPhone was a free software thing to dial and access vmail on the pc. An extension of your account, but pc based. Now I realize it has its own phone # assigned and cost xtra monthly. Does Vonage have free pc software that uses your current account?

You can dial using Vonage's Click-2-Call feature. This results in the Vonage servers calling your phone and when you pick up they dial the number you are attempting to reach.
This service is available under Windows with Outlook integration using a download from Vonage. There are a number of third party tools that extend Click-2-Call into other programs and environments.
Voice mail is accessible through Vonage's website. VMRover is a third party tool that will allow you to access your voicemail from your desktop using an answering machine styled interface.
There is currently no way to place calls on your main Vonage number without using your Vonage hardware.
