PostPosted: Fri Jan 02, 2004 1:51 pm    Post subject: 3 Way Calling problem Reply with quote Back to top

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with using the 3 way calling feature. My setup is thus: Roadrunner---Cable Modem---Linksys BEFW11S4 V4----Motorola(Vonage box)

The problem is, when trying to initiate a 3 way call, I call the first party, no problem. I flash over to the second line, call the second party, no problem. When I try to flash again to connect everyone, it hangs up on the first party. I've tried this with 2 different phones in my house and they both produce the same result. One of them is a General Electric desktop phone with caller ID and the other one is a Vtech cordless phone.

I have tried putting the Motorola in front of the linksys to see if that would help, but it is the same result.

Now for the caveat: I have gotten Vonage tech-support involved. And when I called them, they gave me a second number to call and it worked (figures). however when I try to call any other 2 parties, it does not work. For example I have tried a three way call with my Vonage line, my pots line and my cellphone. No Dice. This is very frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan:

My Vtechs did just the opposite -- if I had call waiting when I was on a call, it would put us in a three-way call when I clicked over to answer it. Ditto the ATT and GE phones with call-waiting caller ID.

Vonage likes Panasonics for some reason, and I don't think I have problems with my Motorolas at all. Let me try a three-way call now. Hmm, it worked fine. It was a bit weird, because I called my office voice mail, then put it on hold and called my cell phone, answered on speaker, then flashed back with the Moto. Got all three lines together, so it worked.

You might try a panasonic or a motorola cordless. I bought and returned at least 10 phones before I found ones that worked the best for me.

good luck,

laurel

This weekend I tried to do a three way call for the first time and it wouldn't work either. I was using a Siemens 2420 base station.

Hmmm, I see a pattern. I use my Vonage phone for business. Tried to get the third party on the line and guess what happened? Hung up on the first party as well. Houston we have a problem...and you made me look like a dork on a business call!

My V-Techs work fine for call waiting & 3 way calling. I'm using the Motorola router. We use call waiting almost daily & 3 way probably once every week or two.

I have not had any issues with 3-way calling. Has worked fine everytime i have attempted to use it. I have a GE cordless phone and the basic Vonage converter box. I use an SMC BARRICADE router. Overall i am really impressed with everything that Vonage has to offer.

I don't know.. but I'm going to guess here that there may be something you have to key in before making the second three way call? I've never gotten it to work correctly either.. but based on things like transfering calls, and repeat dialing having to have special keys pressed, it wouldn't suprise me if 3 way calling worked that way as well, however according to Vonage it does not require it.... hrmmm.

I also had this problem and searched the help files on Vonage.com.

If you have a Linksys Router you have to dial #82 before dialling the second number. I have used this and it works.

This is interesting. I have never experienced that sort of problem with 3-way conference calling. Ah! I have it.

When you use 3-way calling, your bandwidth increases with each party. I think it likely that your bandwidth saver is set low at 30kbps. I suggest increasing that to 50kbps. I found this link that explains it a little better than I.

Thanks mbhn5204!

The features article for the Linksys works for me:
To activate 3-Way Calling on your Linksys Phone Adapter:

1. Dial your first party.
2. Once you are connected to your first party, press
the Flash or Switch Hook button on your phone.
3. Wait for the dial tone. Dial #92 and the number
of the second party.
(Example: #9218662434357)
4. When the second party is connected press the Flash
or Switch Hook button to connect to both parties.

The magic #92 is the key. Without it, I disconnect my second party when I go back to the first.
