Wacktool,
I want to do the same in my house. I just posted a request for information on the use of existing telephone cable to negate the buying of several mobile handsets. Could you please explain or refer me to your previous postings?
Thanks

D7, If your referring to the picture of my setup. The box onthe left is the UPS unit, then next is the Cable modem, next is the router and switch, and ontop of the right hand side of the switch is the Vonage moto box.I just had the house built, so i had the builder drop a phone line, cable drop, and electric drop in bedroom/my office closet. I ran all the network cable and patch panel myself. I went out to Bellsouth's phone box on the outside of the house and did what xianman's link shows. I unplugged bellsouths incoming line and tagged it off (saying: Sensitive TELECOM Equip inside please do not reconnect Bellsouth line). I only have 5 phone line drops in the house, and every line runs from the room to the outside box, so I just connected them all together @ the box. Then setup the motorola box in my wiring closet and plugged the output of the moto box into the phone drop in the wiring closet, which inturn feeds the rest of the house. |

Thanks wacktool. I too am building my own house with a computer room (closet) to be in my office. In the meantime, I'm renting a brand new home which, if my memory serves me, has a communication box in the garage housing the telephone lines, dish TV line, and cable lines. To date theere has been no telephone connection from the street by Bell South. However, I will leave a note not to hook up do to "sensitive equipment".
Lastly, what is the xianman link?
Again, thanks for your response.

Will an old rotary phone with real bells as a ringer work if it is hooked into the wiring of a home. I understand that the rotary dial may not work but will it ring if a call comes in and will I be able to converse over it. Thanks |
