Has anyone else noticed that Vonage's hold music is constantly fluctuating between inaudibly quiet and blaringly loud? I called last night, and it sounded as if they were feeding the music through an exponential curve... the lows were too low, and the highs were too high. I just hung up after a few minutes 'cause it was so frickin annoying.
I'm not sure if that happens all the time though. I just called once last night. |

I usually place Vonage on speakerphone for my hour long waits for customer service and notice the same about the music. |

Methinks Mr. Citron should invest in a real call center phone system from a major equipment provider. |

Maybe their music is stored as ordinary 8-bit PCM, and their software dumps out directly as G.711 without first doing the necessary conversion.
G.711 is the "90k" codec used by Vonage, and it stores the volume levels as a logarithmic curve, instead of linear.
Edit: Never mind, I just tried doing that conversion, and it sounded much, much worse than Vonage's music. |

At times when I forget my radio at work I dial Vonage customer service and place it on the speakerphone so I can jam out to the on hold music. And if they take me off hold I ask if they could please place me back on hold because I really was enjoying that song. |
