I have two Vonage lines. The main number is on my Linksys RT31P2 and the second line is on the Softphone.
On the main number, I have general office Voicemail set to answer after 30 seconds and SimulRing the Softphone who's voicemail is set to answer after 40 seconds.
Everything works fine when my softphone is on.
Call comes in on main line, It rings both at the office and on my laptop. If it isn't answered either place it goes to the voicemail on the office line (generic business greeting).
The problem is when my laptop is off, any call coming in immediately goes to my Softphone's voicemail (personal greeting) and never even rings at the office.
This confuses the caller and keeps my office person from getting the voicemails that are stored in my softphone.
Is there a way to keep the softphone from immediately going to voice mail when my laptop is off?
Thanks in advance

The only thing I could come up with is to set up a second soft-phone on a server that is always up.
It doesn't have to be a full soft-phone since you would never actually use it, it just needs to register with the server and ring for 40 seconds.
I know this solution is not ideal, but it should work if you had the available resources. |

You could try turning off voicemail to the softphone. Forwarding or simulring would in theory direct all the voicemail to the office. |

I was wondering if you were still alive... Yeah, we are having the bbq in July. PM me with your current address and I'll get an invite to you this week.

I have my softphone # on my business cards as my direct line, so I'd have to forward that to my cell phone or something to get a direct line voice mail.
Vonage could create a real lead in the marketplace with a "virtual phone system" for businesses. complete with menus, extensions, "zero for operator", etc. Just require that all phone lines have to be with Vonage. I'd sign up in a heartbeat. Even as high as an additional $40/mo. I'd sign up.
