While you're waiting for your local phone number to be ported to Vonage, are you being charged for both services?

If you mean, are you being charged for your existing telco service and Vonage's service, the answer is yes. You will be continue to be charged by your current telco until the number is ported to Vonage. If you cancel your telco service, you lose your number and it will not be ported. This is the reason that you will see a number people upset about the length of time that number porting takes as they are still paying for their telco service in order to keep their phone number while paying for Vonage at the same time. I think that everyone is OK with this when the porting is completed within the promised 20 business day timeframe but when it takes longer, folks start getting impatient.

Do as I did. I've been waiting 1 month to this point with end in sight because each time I call it's a new excuse as to why my# has not ported( carrier holding it up, block on line, we've missed 3 previous dates etc..).

Low and behold they billed me in full today(no delay there) for what I consider 1/2 of my services. So I called and the CS rep who was almost rude to a point so I said send me a prepaid call tag to send the s*** back and she happly transfer me to the account mgmt. area. Once speaking to this area they obviously don't want to lose a customer after 1 month but were willing to reverse the charge which they did.

Vonages process to port#'s has a long way to go because even the account mgmt area did really think it was a big deal that my # had not ported and couldn;t understand why I want my # vs the virtual# they've assigned. I responed by saying if you credit me x# of $'s for the time it's going to take to updated online accounts ,friends, family and countless others I might be willing to change#'s.

My point is that you should demand the services you are paying for and I am not going to continue to pay two phone bills with one that is basically useless unless you trot out to the phone interface everyday and the other which is used basically for outgoing calls.

Vonage reversed the charges each month I was charged by Vonage prior to the transfer being final. You just need to call customer service.

I'm getting close to 2 months now. I paid the 9.95 for the first month, but I got them to reverse the second month's billing.

Been with Vonage since Jan of this year. My number ported over last March. All I did was called CS after my 20 business days and they credited my account for 1 month. Called again in March when my first transfer date came and went with no transfer of number. They credited my account again. My number transferred later that week. Thought that this was very fair of them!
