Actually, in order to port your number, Vonage has to have numbers available in the same rate centre as the number that you are porting from. The same rule applies to telcos and other Voip providers. |

For those of you in the 905 area, I noticed today that there are now more local exchanges to choose from including Brampton, Mississauga (Streetsville), Ajax, Pickering, etc.
In order to change your number for free, call Vonage customer service (don't do it online) and explain to them that you want a local exchange in your area. I was able to do that successfully. |
