Well I finally did it - I told my local TelCo just what they could do with their POTS line! (Disconnect it, of course... What were you thinking? )
I've been running both systems for a few months because I wasn't willing to immediately dive in all the way. I had a few glitches to work out, but for the last month or so, Vonage has worked very well. Maybe not 100% perfect, but for what I need from a phone service, it is good enough.
It just makes me feel so good to know that my local TelCo finally has some real competition! Every time I paid that phone bill I just felt like I was getting, well, you know... violated! I must admit I felt a certain amount of glee when they asked why I was asking to be disconnected and I could tell them "It's because you have competition now!" hee hee hee... |

They asked us, "is there a new address where you want us to send your bill?"
Nope.

Internet Latency - Internet latency could affect the quality of your phone calls and it is possible to get the "tin can" or echo effect on phone calls especially if you are downloading a great deal via on your computer. I have not run into this issue at the time of this writing but I expect it will occur at least sporadically just due to the nature of the internet in general.
I have run in to this problem. Big time.
I want to cancel my service if your company doesn't resolve my issues immediately. The phone line sounds really bad. I even changed the phone and it still sounds like a bad cell phone.
I called tech support and after waiting on the phone for 30 minutes they didn't help me. They told me they would call me back but never did. I waited over an hour for no phone call...it has since been 5.5hours.
I also e-mailed tech support and they never responded.
I also keep losing my dial tone over and over again. Please help or I will cancel. I have spend way too much time: I have lost hours maybe even a full day or two trying to get your service to work.
Your services sound good on paper but you are NOT delivering your services.
Please help me 609-683-8701

I don't think posting on a privately run message board is the right way to speak with customer service. |

I think posting this on the public board is EXACTLy what should be done.
Folks, everyone on this board is an "early adopter." We are willing to put up with the problems right now and are effectively paying Vonage to work out their bugs. Don't fool yourself.
That's an acceptable process, it happens all the time these days in the technology sector. We make that choice. There a LOADs of others that will wait till the technology is perfected. However, when a company cannot or will not respond expeditiously, that's a big problem. So, just like word of mouth referrals work in their favor, sharing experiences such as Al's brings the customer service issue to light.
I am on the soapbox because I, too, have been awaiting a phone callback for two days. I've solved my own problem but 1) that's not what I AM paying for 2) they don't know that!
So, if I have "cut the cord" with my local telco, I'd be in dire straits right now.
This board represents their market and they SHOULD be looking at these posts and hopefully responding or adjusting to them. What they understand, I am sure, is that the SECOND company to do this will be the one to win themarket unless they are extremely sensitive and responsive to customer issues. So far, they have not proven so..... |

i think posting here is fine it gives users an idea of how the service is. but directing your threats here will do no good as this is not a Vonage run board nor do any of us use Vonage. they may visit the site but your not going through the right channels. |

I'm totally confused by your response. This is NOT a Vonage site and nor does anyone use vonage?? Isn't this a Vonage Forum... I must be lost...
I understand Vonage doesn't run the site, but it is definately associated with it... check the links "Your Account", "Order Vonage"... Please! |

I would say, my Vonage experience,so far, has been good. I have been able to contact customer support and recieve help quickly------ Latency has been no problem and in fact, i have had to tell people that they were talking to me "voip". I am currently "testing" before i cut the cord on my local phone service......have disconnected the incoming line, and have Vonage hooked up throughout the house--all phones act as they did before--and if all goes well i will finally be able to call "MA BELL" and tell her goobye!!!!!!!!! |

Frankly, that is what my intention is too! It's just that I haven't gotten enough positive experience from customer support that I would wish. The service itself has been pretty good; but I have had some problems and I just wish they would have been more responsive.
Hopefully, I'll be able to join those free of POTS. |
