I see there are many posts on the issues of Tivo not dialing out when connected to a Vonage system. I have tried almost eveything I have found and nothing seems to work for me and my Tivo is yelling at me to make a call!!!
Here are my specs:
Original Tivo (Phillips 110)
Vonage Box (Linksys)
My original configuration for vonage is as follows:
- Cable modem is connected to a Linksys (A&G Wireless router)
- Ethernet cable from router is connected to Vonage box
- Phone line from port 1 of vonage box is plugged back into phone jack of house (so the whole house gets vonage)
On the TiVo side:
Tivo was connected to a wireless modem (from the modem jack) to a phone line (this is an old IBM device) The calls worked fine without vonage.
Dialing from 408 area code.
No special dialing options
Here is what I tryed:
1) Using the current configuration - connection failed
2) Adding *99, - connection failed
3) direct connect to phone jack - connection failed
4) direct connection to vonage box - connection failed.
Can someone PLEASE help me???

Check out the other threads here for more info, but here's what finally worked for me:
1) Direct connect to the wall.
2) Call Vonage and ask the customer service rep to upgrade you firmware for Tivo. They should also change some settings on their end (I believe it is to turn off "Echo cancellation processing" and to change the default packet size.) When doing this, place your call from a non-Vonage phone since they can't do the upgrade while your on a phone call. After the call, wait ten minutes for the upgrade to complete.
3) Put ",#096" in your dialing prefix. This will throttle down the Tivo's modem to 9600 bps.
4) Put "*70,*99," in the call waiting prefix section. I don't know if the *99 actually does anytthing for Linksys boxes, though.
5) Shut everything else on your network off for the first call to minimize interference.
6) Set area code to 212, and then choose a Manhattan number (note: only one of the Manhattan numbers worked for me so just try them all in sequence... if you don't get through the first time try a few more.)
7) [Some people have said to get a DSL filter from radio shack but I didn't end up needing this... the main thing for me was that nothing worked until I found the right Manhattan number, then it started working every time.]
Good luck. |

What worked for me:
1. New firmware
2. External modem hooked up to my series 1 Tivo (instructions here - don't forget to configure the modem which is on a linked page http://wiki.ehow.com/Make-Your-Directv-Tivo-work-with-Vonage-VOIP-service )
3. *99 prefix
4. Set baude rate to 9600
5. Direct connect phone line to wall outlet (I had to get rid of my wireless phone jack too).
I now get 100% dial in and download of daily calls (which take about 10 min now at 9600 baude). |
