Try doing a search. There is at least one really long thread on this that answers your question. |

First you must disconnect your POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) where it comes into the house so that there is no voltage going over the wires inside of your home. It usually is two wires, a red and a green. If there is a grey box on the side of your home, open it and disconnect them. Once disconnected, make sure your Vonage Router is connected to either your cable modem or cable router, depending on your set up, then plug the phone line from the Vonage Router into a working phone jack in your home. This should activate all the wiring in your home. Then plug your phones in to any open jacks. Make sure you disconnect the wires from your POTS before doing this procedure otherwise you may damage the Vonage Router. Good Luck |

Connecting to the wiring in your home is easy. As the previous poster stated...you can go out to the grey box outside your home where the phone line comes in.
1. If your box is like mine, there is actually a regular telephone jack inside with what looks like a phone chord connected. In this case all you have to do is unplug that phone chord. Disconnecting this phone chord should disconnect your house from the land line. When you pick up the phone inside your house you should not hear a dial tone.
2. Take a phone chord and run it from your Vonage box to the nearest phone jack. This will power up the lines inside the house with dialtone through your new Vonage account.
Note...If you have a security system, this should also connect the system to your monitoring station through Vonage- the only disadvantage is that if your house loses power, the system will no longer be able to dial the monitoring station. Many alarm companies now provide optional cellular connections- this is a good bet for this situation |

Sschmerge, welcome aboard, but you're replying to a thread that's been dead for 2 years. The participants may not be around any more. |
