Hello, and thanks for all the info on this forum. I just rewired with cat5 from my phone adapter (linksys RT31P2) to my leviton security module and back to the telephone jack. Phone works fine. My question is: As I was removing the old phone line I cut it to feed the new cat5 wire to the alarm panel.. When I did, I got a 'Tamper' alarm. I assume this is to provide info that the phone line was cut. Can I use two wires of the new cat5 wire to provide function to this zone? Right now the two wires to this zone are twisted together completing the circuit. Or is tamper protection really needed anymore?
And I just tested the alarm, ADT received the alarm signal , so I didn't even have to adjust packetization. Looks like the bugs are getting worked out.
Thanks for any info,
Tom |

I had the same problem. Luckily, my dad owns a security company. He basically told me that the tamper zone wasnt really necessary. You could have your whole system reprogrammed to delete the tamper zone, but there is a simpler solution. Just locate the lugs on your panel that are used for your tamper zone and tie them down. I used a 2.2k resister and it satisfied the panel. Once the zone is hardwired (aka "tied down"), the tamper zone will never show up again.

Thanks YoungClay for the info. I figured out the two wires for the tamper zone were just spliced together when I followed the old phone line to the phone company panel outside. So I just spliced them together inside the alarm panel and the tamper zone has gone away. Everything working fine. Thanks again. |
