Even if Comcast tells you they don't require MAC registration, it looks like they might.
When you use your PC's MAC in the Linksys, you are fooling them into believing that the Linksys is your PC.
Try pulling off everything but the PC (Cable Modem<=>PC).
If you get connected, insert the Linksys(Modem<=>Linksys<=>PC).
If that works, finally insert the TA. If things go south, you might have to bring your TA inside the router (Modem<=>Linksys<=>TA&PC). You won't get to use QoS, but with high bandwidth, it may not be noticeable.

OK, figured it out ....... for some reason it works fine when I switch the ATA to behind the router ...... so having cable modem ---> router ---> computers + Tivo + Motorola ATA ====> works great.

Thanks for all your help!

I had the same problem...I had to spoof the MAC address on the Motorola adapter. I gave it one similar to the one my PC had (just changed the last digit). It fired right up. I am using a Motorola cable modem.

I need your help.

I have been a very happy Vonage customer for over a year now, using my Motorola phone adapter and Time Warner RoadRunner Wisconsin as the ISP.

I now moved to Colorado (yeah!) and switched to Comcast as the ISP. When I now connect my same Motorola phone adapter (that worked fine 5 days ago with Time Warner) into the Comcast cable modem the green LED on the phone adapter blinks two time repeatedly (over 10 minutes and no change). I followed the instructions from the Vonage website (preferred setup) to the "t". I switched all components off & on in the prescribed order but still I cannot go beyond the two blinks (indicating it is trying to obtain an IP address).

I am using the exact same setup as I used before: cable modem --> Vonage phone adapter --> Linksys BEFSR41 router --> two computers running XP. I know I had to log into my router and give it the "physical address" to make the computers be able to access the internet. Is there something like this I need to do with my Vonage phone adapter ......... I thought I should be able to plug it into any modem (network jack) and it should work ......... why cannot it not obtain an IP address?

Any help would be appreciated!!!
