Let me tell you this, Vonage is not regulated by the FCC, Vonage considers themselves a Data Company not a Telephone Company. So hence since they don't fall under the FCC the "Telephone Companies" don't have to hand the number over.

The truth is that Vonage is only a "phone company" when they want to be. What is that I see? "The Broadband Phone Company"? It appears to be a registered trademark.
Regardless, some of their business practices are a bit shady, and the point is that they are offering something that they fail to provide.
We'll see how long this "data company" stuff holds up, as Voip becomes more popular. As long as they communicate with POTS, they'll most certainly be a "phone company", even if they try to slide around the obligations that phone companies have (and the taxes). Cellphone exchanges utilize "data services" as well, but they are run by "phone companies". "Phone companies" transmit long distance conversation over IP as well. Vonage is no different. |
You bring up a good arguement sir, when will the FCC "Deem Voip Phone Companies" as phone companies. I never claimed to be a FCC expert but I'm sure down the road Voip will be regulated once the phone compaines start providing Voip seriously. Is there business practice shady, umm maybe, but that is another debt which can go on for years.
But let me bring this to the table, at the current stand point Vonage piggybacks off the current broadband connection right? Well you are using the internet pretty much you phone line, the only thing you are doing is going through there proxy/switch for call routing, the internet handles everything else, so how do you regulate the internet?
I'm sure we can debt the issue all day long, but the simple fact is that at the moment Vonage isn't regulated by the FCC so there is no sense in filing complaints. |

That's disturbing.
Good luck with Comcast. |
