I read your Thread last night, and thought it might help, but ruled it out, because it is a different cable modem.
For the heck of it, I tried it, though I don't have a field labled "Known CPE MAC Address (Max 1)" anywhere in my cable modems diagnostics. For the heck of it, I used the MAC of the cable modem itself and then when I cloned that in the router, I couldn't get the thing to get on the internet at all. So I turned off cloning and it started working again just fine. I don't think that's the ticket. Whether my cable modem is recycled, or my router for that matter, I don't know.
I don't think so, but there is no real way of knowing.

Try this. http://192.168.100.1/moreInfo.html

or this :http://www.cablemodemagora.com/thomson-rca-cable-modem-drivers.htm

Yours is a RCA/Thomson cable modem

I found the data on another forum by googling DCM425.

tracerbullet,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such trouble with your rt. I agree with you that there are only a few options left.
1. The rt is DOA.
2. The rt is misconfigured (somehow)
3. It is incompatible with your cordless phone
4. The rt is incompatible with your modem.
5. Vonage has entered in the wrong MAC address into their database and so your rt is not yet activated.

I am sure there are more options but these are the ones that come to mind.

I will suggest of course that option 1 is our last option.

Jeckler has a good suggestion but if your phone 1 light is not solid right now, changing the type of phone would be irrelevant. In other words, when I power up my rt31p2 with only my cable modem on, the both phone line lights blink about 3-4 times before line 1 light becomes solid.

**Very important** In my brief experience with the rt31p2, I noticed that when my computer is on and plugged into ethernet port 1 of the rt, the phone light does not engage when it boots up and therefore I get no dial tone. I have to unplug the computer ethernet plug from port 1 while the rt31p2 is booting up.

I would suggest trying that if you have not already done so. Your post does not specify that you have tried this.

please get back to us.

If it still fails to get a solid light for line 1 then do the following:

---------------------------------
If you don't get a solid line 1 light, then call Vonage and ask them to verify that they can access your rt. If they cannot access your rt something is wrong on their end. Double check their activation and see if they can mess around with your rt. This will resolve option 5.

-----------------------------------

One simple alternative is to go to a neighbor who has a different modem but has broadband internet to see if the rt can "call home" and get an active phone line 1. That way you can see if there is any incompatibility with your modem or setup.

I will await your feedback before trying some other options.

Mundy5

ps fyi, the mac address being cloned is not the same as the MAC address on the bottom of the router. The cloning procedure is necessary at times because cable operators do not permit the use of more than one computer to access the internet by recording the MAC address of the original computer into their database. Thus when you clone the MAC address on the rt, it now is communicating with the cable company "acting" or "cloning" your NIC. You certainly do not want to clone the MAC address of your cable modem as you found out.

First post on a Vonage Voip Forum, so bear with me please.
I experienced almost exactly the same situation as the author of this topic. I spent two hours on the phone with both foreign and native customer service reps who had me go through the hard, soft and any other kind of reset that exists.

I had access to Internet but no phone service, which was disheartening as that is why I got the service. After spending at least a half an hour with the last rep, I suggested that maybe the Linksys RT31P2 Broadband Router was DOA and that I would like a new one sent. Initially, there was resistance to the idea and even after submitting to the request the rep was still holding out for me to pay for shipping of the unit back to Vonage. A truly unique and interesting approach to customer service.

Anyway, awaiting different router and hoping for the best.

I had the exact situation occur, although it was after I had been using my RT for a few months....just up and died on me.
They did ave me pay to ship it back, and suspended billing for 14 days. I just sent it through the post office certified to keep it as cheap as possible...
They overnighted me a new RT and it worked like a charm...You never know how these things are handled in transit once they leave Vonage...

Hi Guys!

I have the same problem. I also called Vonage adn was told the same thing..rt is broken sent in for a new one. Well I have to pay for shipping all the way back and they send me a new one to my address in the states and had to pay to send it over to me in Singapore.

Received it back, still the same problem so I dont think it is a problem of DOA router or I must be really unlucky to have received tow doa routers.

IS there a way that the modem or my wireless router is blocking the Vonage rt? but still letting it connect to the net? Like Vonage not being able to contact my router maybe because of my virus portection or firewall?

When i first connected the rt and I went on its ip I could see under status for voice as my number offline, now i only see custumized under customization and nothing under status. I am using a motorola surfboard sb5100i cable modem with a linksys wireles WRT54C ver2. My modem is coneccted to the rt31p2 and the wireless into port 1 of the rt31 and into its internet port.

Anny suggestions?

I posted on this topic last evening, relaying that I had no luck and was in the midst of exchanging out the original Linksys with another.

The exhange has taken place and I am up & running.

Hope things workout for everyone.

Cheers!
