I see. Let me spell it out for you. I pay $40 per month for 1000 minutes unlimited nights and weekends to anywhere in the country with my cell phone. So you see, there is no need to pay for both services. Not everyone needs to make their calls from a landline.

So again, I am puzzled why people want to "save" a lousy $5 or $10 by going to el-strippo service.

$25 per month for unlimted calls is a HUGE savings for me over landline. Trying to save an extra $10 and watch my minutes is really being too cheap.

I guess if you never make any phone calls, the lower limits might be useful, if you are on welfare or Social Security or something.

With your logic mate there would be only 1 kind of car produced and our houses would all look alike.

Yeah, I am long retired living on a Navy pension and Social Security. You got a problem with that?

Here's the deal, I do not commit my life to the phone. The highest month is around 300 minutes a month. I carry a cell phone with the cheapest plan I can find because the Doctors told me too. The same DR's advised against buying green bananas.

The broadband cable is paid for by a National Vets association for keeping up their Website. The $10 bucks I save pays for a bit of fishing in the summer.

Probably you would have not liked spending 20+ years in a fireroom or engineroom. Probably you would not like my retired life. I enjoyed the first and am enjoying the second.

One plan does not fit all.

I personally think this option is great. I would even prefer a less expensive option for 100 minutes like Broadvoice @ $5.95/mo.

I'm sorry but Broadvoice service has been horrible.

Hmm, I merely said that I would like a lower priced plan like Broadvoice offers. I have heard that Vonage has been offering some people a light plan. I was not debating the quality or lack of with Broadvoice. They were fine when I had them. They just could not/would not LNP.

I am not debating with you, I am just letting people know that there service has been horrible. You cant take everything personally.

Odd statements you make, but I certainly like the 500 minute/month choice. I have been with Vonage for a few months now and have never come close to my 500 minutes. Why pay extra for minutes I will never use? Oh...and I am certainly not on "welfare," and hold a job paying well above six figures.

I have service from several providers. I prefer the plans that don't charge me for what I don't use.

Lets see, so far this month:
Vonage (500 plan + softphone): 54 minutes billable minutes, 58 in-network. 112 minutes total for 3.5 weeks. $25 for 112 minutes is nothing special.

However, on broadvoice's 5.95 plan I've only got 12 excess minutes (assuming I have to pay for calls to other Vonage people now). Assuming they can stay online and maintain my sip registration. The apology and explanation from the broadvoice president helped so I'm waiting a bit longer to see how they go.

Or teliax. $0 per month, 2c per call for outgoing calls. 112 minutes = $2.24. Is teliax's model sustainable? I guess time will tell, but its a BYO hardware or software thing so they aren't forcing me to pay rent for hardware that I dont need nor want like Vonage does - reminds me of old telco behavior! They're not forcing me (as a light phone user) to subsidize other heavy users like Vonage does. Teliax isn't out of pocket if I hardly make any calls. Their service "just worked". No support calls were needed. It's quite a bargain compared to Vonage from the perspective of my usage pattern.

Anyway, I'm personally waiting to see how things stabilize before ultimately deciding what to do. For what its worth, I would have left Vonage months ago if I could take my number with me. I transferred it from SBC, but it is in a CO with poor representation by other carriers, notably no Level3 nor XO. Most of the "other" Voip providers seem to want to use L3 or XO, not Focal. Sigh.

For me though, its not about cost, but rather flexibility. But since most of the "other" Voip providers have cheap/low-cost plans available, it means I can road-test several at once and not feel too guilty about having 7 inbound phone numbers from 5 providers at once.

How this thread - titled "There's No Way to Cancel Service" became a Voip rate plan comparison (which we do not allow, as this is the 'Vonage' forum) I am not sure.

Regardless, let's get this back on topic please.

Thank you,

I make no domestic calls. Wy would I want to pay an extra $10?

I went for the flat fee $25 a month unlimited calls. Trying to save $10 by going to the billing minute is ridiculous. I wonder why they even offer it.

If it's pre-paid, then why have they kept trying to charge my credit card $16.94 every month?

To answer your question: What I meant by prepaid is that you pay for the month in advance. It's supposed to be billed to your credit card on the first day of your billing cycle. Because your service was never cancelled, they continued to bill you. Why they kept your account active for as long as they did, I'm not sure. Obviously, it is an error on someone's part.

I've dealt with both good reps and bad reps at Vonage. There is definitely room for improvement in customer service but I could say that for several other (successful) companies as well. As others have mentioned, several other people have been able to cancel service. While your situation may not be unique, I highly doubt it's a common problem either. You were just one of the unlucky ones.
