Reading through the tech mags, I noticed a topic that I have never saw before. It is that some of the PSAP's are not accepting calls from VoIP providers like Vonage. Is this true. If so where do the 911 emergency calls get routed in these areas that do not accept the emergency call from VoIP users.

The article had said that NY city was not accepting VoIP 911 calls.

I think that I saw a similiar article. Apparently VoIP calls in NYC were being routed to an internal NYPD employee line for sick calls. The NYPD quickly became annoyed with this and instructed VoIP companies to stop routing calls to the number. This is likely the reason that e911 for VoIP is being rolled out in NYC first.

as opposed to what, believing everything you hear? I'm not saying it's wrong, but I would like more info on it as well. I would have shut this forum down over ire at user stupidity a long time ago; dan has more patience and tact than many.

Actually Rhode Island has had E-911 over VoIP for at least 6 months now. The whole state mind you.

Ladies...Gentlemen...and DCONNOR,

I'm not here to create a "urinating" contest, I'm just providing you all with MY OPINION about the unsupportive nature of some!

I've read through this forum plenty of times, and I just seem to find a continuing "prove it" attitude from Mr. DCONNOR!

I'm not here to "RANT"...I just want legitimate answers to legitimate questions, just like many onlookers!

Mr. DCONNOR, I WON'T answer your question posted in your link, simply because you won't post THE REAL...honest answer!

Later!

You won't answer my question because you can not answer my question because your comment is not true.

Now, to the OP or anyone else who might know:

Would you please be so kind as to proved the members and visitors of this forum a link to the article that you mentioned.

Thank you so very much.

I saw something suspiciously similar on Law & Order: Trial By Jury, only in that story the guy intentionally called a non-emergency number and got was hung up on by a desk-assigned police officer normally used to taking phone messages and sick calls. (VOIP was not mentioned.)
