Hello,

Does anyone have an idea on how one chages or proxies the ports that Vonage uses?

I.e. if my ISP blocks Vonage's ports--I know that they aren't allowed--how could I get around that? I was thinking using a proxie that would use a different set of ports that would then be converted back to the "known" ports that Vonage uses.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

If your ISP, which you should include in your signature, is blocking Vonage's ports, then Vonage (and only Vonage afaik) can change the settings to use different ports. The reason that Vonage has to change the ports is because they also have to account for your equipment changes on their equipment.

They have done this in the past and mentioned it in articles. If you are not yet a subscriber then I would try to get them to commit to this before you get equipment.

Thanks for replying.

I haven't checked what ISP it is, as it only happens at one particular place--when I am therel. I thought that there might be a striaght forward way to change the ports used.

I have always wondered if you could tunnel the traffic through a VPN to a site where you knew Voip would work.

If you have the resources and you try it, please let me know.

It might induce too much delay or degrade your connection too much. There may be some other technical reason that it won't work.

While this is not Voange, we have a client that runs a full blown Cisco Voip solution including softphone for outside sales.

We have it setup so the users VPN into the servers and they softphone with no problems. Quality is the same as if they were sitting in the office. This setup works for users in the UK, Germany, and Brazil.

Like I said, not a Vonage setup and not sure if there is any port blocking going on but I do know that Voip works fine using VPN. Be interesting to see if it could work with Vonage. I'm sure it could.
