It is interesting that I have had Vonage for about 3 weeks now and I have been monitoring their site. It has been a while since they had a newsletter released. It would be nice to get some information from them. Of course they know about this website. I would sure think and hope they read it. It sure would be nice for them to assign someone to at least respond to some of the hotter topics (this one qualifies in my opinion). I am still holding out that they are busy building the system since this technology is catching on fast.

I have called about the ACR many times, but am now losing my patience. About four months ago, I called Customer Service (again) and inquired of them about the lack of ACR. and I was told that this service would be offered in August. Being that I am a long time customer, Vonage gave me four months of free service. I was happy as the four-month period would be over when the ACR is offered!
Today, I called and asked again if the ACR service was available. It may not be a surprise to anyone, but ACR is still not available. I was told they plan to offer this in December.
Being that the last promise was broken, I requested an e-mail confirmation of this.
I received the following e-mail from Vonage Customer Service...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Jesse H Cuzzort Jr,

The purpose of this email is to confirm the details of our conversation of Aug 25th. Per our discussion, this is to confirm the anticipated roll-out of Vonage's 'Anonymous Call Reject' feature, by mid to late December of this year.

Contingent upon your acceptance, I am prepared to offer you 4 months of free service, which will prevent any recurring monthly charges to your card during this time. Should you have any questions or concerns, you should feel free to contact the Account Management Department at: (800) 860-5491.

Sincerely,

<edit>

Please, everyone here should call the number above and request a date!
Get it in writing!

So you have 8 months of free service? I really would not complain if I were you...If you want ACR that bad, then switch services...You knew that when you signed up it was not offered.
Sorry but with now 8 months of free service, i see zero wiggle room for you to complain.

Two years of unfulfilled promises gives me plenty of "wiggle room" to complain. I will not apologize for complaining about it.

... and YOU are not ME, so I will complain if I wish.
... and you did NOT know what I knew when I signed up. Please don't try to berate me, unless you are a psychic.

BTW, I do have another service that DOES offer ACR. Are you serious about encouraging me to leave Vonage? After my free months are up, I just might do so!

I'm glad to see it in writing. It would be interesting to see what is happening on their end. I am an optimist and really think they must have a reason to not offer yet. The only bad thing is they may be paranoid and ultra conservative like some other companies. I can't say I am not a perfectionist and get behind because of my detailing. I know other companies offer it. And with our free economy we can choose other companies. I don't think Vonage has all the answers yet but, when I surveyed the options for a provider I did not find anybody that had most of my desires except that I am saving a lot of money. I expect there will be a lot of leap frogging among companies as the technology for Voip matures.

Why did I choose this one?

(1) My POTS provider at the time also had a cell contract with me. They were arrogant and made me mad when I lived in this area 15 years ago. I move here again, find they are about the only provider where I live. They were the only company that claimed their cell service worked here. And they haven't changed. Still arrogant but bigger. That is really the main reason I jumped to Voip other than saving money. So I dare not choose their Voip service.

(2) My long distance provider had Voip and was a close contender. Frankly they lost because nobody offered my local exchange and Vonage's toll free service hooked me. I had carried this long distance provider since the days of choice began. I had the same Calling Card number that has moved with me across 5 states. But, Voip won me over and they came in 2nd.

(3) The small companies scare me. Don't forget I am a perfectionist and am paranoid; therefore conservative. I think Vonage has enough jump they are in for the long haul even if they don't have it all yet. I am surprised one of the traditional POTS providers have not tried to buy them out.

With all that said, ACR is a big desire for me but wasn't a deal buster. I actually bought a Nortel Meridian phone several years ago that had a feature to pick up Anon / Private Calls and tell them I wasn't taking the calls. It also announces the number of the caller from the ID or, using your voice, announce the caller if you have programmed / recorded the info. It holds a lot of names. They did not advertise it and have not advertised it. It was an accident that I found it. That thing is gold. But I still prefer ACR from the company because I like Vonage's voicemail features. So, Vonage employee, if you are reading this, tell Daddy to get moving. From this forum it seems to be one of the bigger itches that need scratching.

Sorry to be long winded, but I just have to share this. I got on the government "Do Not Call List". Thought I was covered. Sat down at the dinner table. Phone rings. My POTS company is trying to sell me features. I tell them I am on the Do Not Call List. They tell me they are exempt because they are my provider. I tell them never to call me again unless it is a service problem. A week later they call me again to confirm that I do not want any more calls from their marketing offerings. Duh. Goodbye POTS. Hello Voip and Vonage.

Yes I am encouraging you to leave...If you have the other service, then you are fine. You have your ACR. But if you calling up wasting time complaining about not having ACR and then getting 8 free months, then the rest of use who are PAYING customers are footing that bill..So please yes, leave Vonage. I don't care to subsidize you anymore.

I am glad I am not you, and maybe I am psychic. But I just won't tell what is in your future. Let me just say that it involves a llama, a 9 iron, and a trip to the emergency room.
