I currently have all of my landline calls forwarded to my Vonage number. I'm paying for Caller ID on the landline each month. If I cancel Caller ID on my landline, does anyone know if those forwarded calls will still be identified when they come through on my Vonage line?
Thank you all for your help. |

I have the same setup: my Sprint POTS line is always forwarded to my Vonage #. I only have local service (with per call long dist just in case) with call forwarding. I do not have CallerID on my POTS line. But I still get CallerID at my Vonage # from forwarded calls. I believe, though I'm no expert, that the number if originally available, will always get shuttled around. It's then up to the final destination whether to provide that as CallerID or not.
Another thing I did not consider when setting up the forward, is that I can receive only one call on the POTS line at a time. That is, there is no call waiting for people calling through the POTS #. I can still get call waiting if Vonage # is called direct, or if I place an outbound call on Vonage and a forwarded POTS call comes in. |

You will get the caller ID when calls are forwarded from your POTS line even if you do not have caller ID activated on it. It simply passes through to your VOIP line with all the info intact.
tosa68, I too have my pots line forwarded to my VOIP, and if two people call the POTS number I DO get them both on the VOIP line even though I do not have call waiting on the POTS line.
And for anyone wondering, if your POTS line is a charge per call monthly service (usually the cheapest monthly set rate available) and you have call forward on it and activated, call forwarded calls DO NOT count as a call made, it is still seen as a received call. Of course if call forwarded to a long distance number, long distance charges apply. |

Thank you all for your responses. I canceled Caller ID on my landline today. You're helping me save $6.13 per month. (Not much, but I'll take it. ) |
