I've had my Linksys WRT54GP2 for just a few weeks and have noticed some problems with the current 1.28.00 firmware that is on the unit. Wondering if anyone else had seen the same issues.
1) Wireless SSID Broadcast Disable setting does not result in the SSID not being broadcast. SSID is still broadcasting with the setting set to disable. WEP seems to be the only recourse to keep other neighborhood wireless surfers off the network.
2) Administratve IP address on the router stops responding http://internal.ip.address. I have not figured out the 'cause' but just seems to stop and a reboot of the router seems to clear up the issue. One of the 2 or 3 PC's is unable to surf sometimes when this happens -- the default gateway of the internal network stops responding to pings.
3) Don't bother Linksys with these issues as when I reported them, they told me to talk with my Voip provider as they are responsible for the firmware.
4) Occassional spontaneous reboots of the router. |

1. I read the link and I don't see how an SSID broadcast would be tied to Voip. But like the others I've configured security as best as possible with the SSID in the state it is in. I would suggest putting a disclaimer on the boxes that this is an issue, not a feature. I did not realize it was an issue until I noticed my neighbors getting on my network. As someone who configures Cisco equipment all the time, I should of checked it after configuring it.
2. This may be similar to the DHCP issue I've seen some others post about. Setting all the clients to static IPs at the desktop seems to cure it, but still doesn't explain why the default IP of the router stops working.
4. The device is on a shelf away from other heat sources. The reboots are only a once or twice a week issue...so nothing I can tie down.
I would suggest that Cisco/Linksys/Vonage get together and verify the code that is being placed on the routers as there appears to be problems. |

Just my 2 cents. I also have a WRT54GP2 and I have also disabled my SSID broadcast and it does in fact disable it. The only problem I have encountered is when I set the router to accept 802.11G cards only and also setup WPA-PSK encryption. I would lose my connection from my PC to the router CONSTANTLY. Sometimes every 5 minutes it would disconnect and reconnect. After messing with MANY settings in my wireless card's driver (power management and such), and also many settings in the router, I decided to reset it to default and try again. This time I set it to accept mixed mode cards (B and G) and I used WEP 128 encryption instead of WPA-PSK. Now it stays connected all the time. I am not sure exactly which setting fixed it, I am leaning towards the encryption thing. I eliminated the possibility of outside interferance because I did not change the location of the router nor my PC (which are about 8 feet apart). |

I had the same issue with WPA on my WRT54GP2. It had worked find on my WRT54G, but when I changed over to the GP2, I experienced the same behavior from 3 different wireless computers. I ended up switching back to 128-bit WEP as well. |

hmm, I have recently purchased a WRT54GP2-NA
I am based in New Zealand, and am connecting over PPPoE to my network provider.
The WRT54GP2 connects to the cable modem (World Wide Packets - Lightening Edge 17)
I have set the router up to connect over PPPoE, and tried all the FAQs on linksys. It connects fine, then gets dropped, this happens constantly, and evey minute or so the router resets itself.
If I take the DSL cable out of the internet jack on the router, then it sits rocksolid.
If I connect the cable directly to a PC and run the connect software (PPPoE) that is on the PC then it connects fine, and doesn’t drop at all. |

I have had 802.11[bg] connection reliability problems from day one with this router. If I were Linksys, I would NOT put my name on a device I can not control the code on. Vonage should not enter into agreements that require they become experts in anything besides Voip. If you want wireless, buy a "real" wireless router that is support by the vendor.
Will Vonage be releasing updated firmware???

I also had to fall back to WEP 128. |

Wrong router.
By the way, has 1.29.00 come out for the WRT54GP2? Or was that an RT31P2-only update? |
