PostPosted: Wed May 18, 2005 7:07 pm    Post subject: 10.40.64.1 Vonage specific IP address? Reply with quote Back to top

I have been trying to identify some packet loss, and using alot of traceroute programs there is sometimes 30-60% packet loss at this address...But I try to look it up on an IP address finder and it can't be found...

Any suggestions?

When trying to identify the owner of an IP address I recommend stopping by arin.net for a whois lookup.

If you reference RFC 1918 you will find out that this is one of the ranges reserved for private use. You may be familiar with 198.162.x.x.

Frankly I am unsure why you are seeing traffic transiting a 10.x.x.x space. Could you post a traceroute for further analysis?

I use the tools at pcpitstop.com quite a bit...this is the traceroute to mheller.com...
I have been trying New England based ip's as there seems to be a bad hop in there somewhere...

10.2.xxx.xxx is a private IP address most likely your ISP's router.

Based on your tracert it appears you may have a problem with your cable modem.

What model do you have?

It's a fairly new Motorola 5100...but this is the strange part...I have noticed that the pc/activity light used to remain solid unless I was on the phone, surfing etc...shut down the computer and it would remain solid, not flash etc..

Then one day the light started flashing quite often, never stops as does the one on my linksys Vonage router...
