Post subject: Failure to Notify Customers of Outages
Please note that this thread is not directly about the current outage. To discuss the current outage, please see
this
thread.
Having said that, I think it is important to discuss the lack of notification on such outages. As scerruti put it:
Quote:
If for no other reason it lets everyone know the problem isn't with their (the customer's) equipment.
However:
Vonage
currently displays outage information once you are logged in, if their server is down you can't log in, therefore you can't see outage information.
Should
Vonage
make outage information available to the general public?
If
Vonage
can't find a way to make the web site work in a limited fashion when their system tanks (i.e. some type of separate back-up authentication system) then the answer has to be yes.
Perhaps we could have a status.vonage.com that isn't on the same network as the rest of the equipment? For instance, the sales page stayed up just fine
.

A simple solution might be to provide an opt-in email list for outage notification to registered customers.
