Post subject: list of Voice Mail numbers by city?
I see the Voice Mail numbers by area code page at <http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=voicemail> but just because the area code is the same doesn't mean it is a local call. I'm in the very crowded 817 area code, and the voice mail number that
Vonage
first assigned to me was a long distance call. (made it difficult to check messages from work, etc..) Luckily, customer care was able to read me a list cities, and the city 10 miles away had a very different local voice mail access number listed, and even tho the area code (682) was different than 817, it is a local call for me even from non
Vonage
phones. <http://www.puc.state.tx.us/telecomm/areacodes/FtWorth.cfm> . Is this list of Voice Mail numbers that she read the cities from available to us on the internet? I could see it could be very handy when traveling, more so than just the plain area code lookup list.

I just call my hone line (my
Vonage
number), and I just press * then my password. Works like a charm!

How about by area code? Try this link:

Or right here:
Vonage Voice Mail FAQ
but I do think our list needs to be updated.

As I originally said, I saw the "by area code number", but even tho my home # is in the 817 area code, and I work 4 miles from home also in the 817 area code, and my wife works 6 miles away also in the 817 area code, the 817 voice mail number is a long distance call ... even from the neighbors standard SBC line next door (also in the 817 area code and less that a couple hundred feet away). But if I use the 682 area code number, it is a local call. Naturally, calling from the home phone isn't a problem as long distance is free. Its the other places. The metroplex where I live is served by at least 5 area codes, (and
Vonage
likely has many customers here), so knowing the voice mail number by city would be very helpful. Luckily, the customer care person had that list someplace, and it would be nice if it were made generally available on the web, perhaps as another detail link from the "by area code" list.
This could also affect new customers signing up for a "vonage supplied number" as a "local 817" number might end up being a long distance call from the house next door whereas a 682 assigned number could be local. The problem is likely a limited number of exchanges/number available in this crowded area, thus why the PUC overlaid additional area codes on top of the region. This could be an issue any place where 10 digit dialing is mandatory.

Well, this might help. Instead of just seeing the access numbers one at a time by entering an area code, you can (in most browsers) click on the menu bar View/PageSource. A window or editor will open. If you scroll down, you will see the complete list access numbers (embedded in code, but pretty easy to see). Maybe you can find one more appropriate to you that way.
Here's another question: Can I retrieve my voicemail from any access number or just the one in my home area code?

I believe you can dial any of the numbers listed on
<http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=voicemail>
At least it works for me...
If not calling on your
Vonage
phone, just enter your 11 digit phone number (1 xxx xxx xxxx) followed by # sign and then your passcode (without a # sign). However, I believe the 1st time you are setting up a new account you have to call from your
Vonage
phone. This is just my uneducated observation.
By the way, reading the source HTML still doesn't list the voice mail numbers by city, only area code and like I originally posted, that may not be a local call from non
Vonage
phones whereas it could be a local call dialing into a different area code ... especially in large areas served by multiple area codes such as the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area. ... i.e. my 817 vs 682 example So it helps to lookup from Ma Bell (or the public utilities commission) all the area codes that service the surrounding area.
