PostPosted: Sun May 15, 2005 12:21 pm    Post subject: Cannot Access Phone Adapter via web Reply with quote Back to top

I recieved my phone adapter yesterday and the install was pretty straight forward. i got a dial tone very quickly.

My install goes like this. Cable Modem --> Netgear MR314 Wireless router --> Linksys PA. I'm not using any of the ports on the PA. I have wireless laptop setup and use the Netgear for everything. I checked the DHCP table on my Netgear and see the PA on it but I cannot access it at all via the web. If I plug my laptop into the PA via patch cord I can access. I can access the net and still get dial tone but just cant access the PA unless I'm plugged directly to it.

Any help would be great.

I haven't worked with the Linksys adapters before so someone else can probably help you better, but I would suspect a routing issue. Can you post your IP addresses and which Linksys adapter you have?

listo, scerruti is correct. I believe the main reason is because you have the rt31p2 on its standard 192.168.15.1 ip address while your netgear router is on a different subnet i.e. 192.168.0.xxx or something like that. If you want to be able to get to the rt31p2, you need to change it's ip address (by connecting your notebook directly to it) to the same subnet 192.168.0.xxx (of course a number that is beyond the assigned ip addresses by your netgear). Then when you type in the new ip address from your notebook when it is connected to the netgear, it should be able to get to it.

I finally got it all worked out. I have DHCP running on my netgear wireless router and switch. The Linksys PA was seeing the DHCP and accepting the settings. I had to change the local IP address of the router and allow remote 8080 administration. Its working now. I can get to both from the wireless laptop.

Thanks

I have similar setup and question (router is Linksys WRT54GS). In order to access the PA web utility, I have to change the IP on the WRT? I'm not sure I understand why this would work. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

so modem - linksys wrt54gs - linksys rt31p2 (right?)
where are your comuters connected?
basically if your computers are in front of the ta (using the wrt) then you need to plug one computer into the rt31p2 and set it up for remote administration. there is no need to change its ip since it already has an ip from the wrt54gs. you do need to know what ip it is assigned however.
so instead of accessing it at http://192.168.15.1, you wil access it at (assigned ip):8080 (or a different port if you change it. for instance, http://192.168.1.100:8080

Thanks much for defining setup for me. I did what you said but I now think I have another issue because when I attempt to access web utility via remote ip, I am immediately directed to "page cannot be found" page. I think this may have something to do with installed firewall. I wil keep trying. At least I know the hardware setup of it now.

Thanks again for your help.

if you use a software firewall especially, it would probably be easier to change the port from 8080 to something else and set that port to allow.
make sure you enter the port with the ip or it will give that error
http://192.168.1.100:8080 not http://192.168.1.100
