I think this is a must have, especially if you use Vonage for business purposes yet do not have a high end phone system/PBX.
This is the only feature I'm missing that I dearly desire. |

What I'd like to see a virtual PBX. Basically it works like this.
1) Phone is answered with a voice response system - press 1 for Sales, press 2 for support etc etc.
2) Depending on which option the user presses, a distinctive ring is heard. So, if you get two short rings and a pause, for example, you know it's a sales call. If it's one long ring and a pause then it's a support call.
Same could be used for calling family. You know the call is for you or another member of the family depending on the ring. One phone number, different menu options for the caller - different ring.
On the heels of that, I'd like to see "quiet time" - I work from home and don't want to be bothered by calls for my wife. She could program Vonage to go do voicemail between 8am and 6pm M-F or redirect calls to her cellphone but I could still get incoming calls (this would only work via a menu system so it knows who to connect to) if that makes sense.
Finally, I would like Click-2-Call to not ask me to login every time I reboot my computer.

Thinking about developing services for Vonage customers...how can I tell if a customer is a Vonage customer or not? Ie, only a Vonage customer can sign up to use the service I provide.
Is there some sort of web based API I could use? For example, my number is with SBC and waiting for it to be ported so I don't want to be able to have me sign up since the number isn't on Vonage yet.

Assuming that no such API exists (I don't know), you might be able to get information on your own by sniffing packets as an incoming call arrives. There's bound to be some identifiable difference between a call coming from a PSTN gateway, and a call coming directly from another Vonage box. |

I am not aware of any API currently available.
There may be some way of viewing your activity after the fact and seeing if a call was from a Vonage customer since Vonage to Vonage calls are free. You may have to place a return call to get that information. |
