Well, I'm giving up trying to use Checkpoint VPN through the RT31P2 to connect to my office. So now I'm looking to reconfigure my home network with a non-Linksys router in front and the RT31P2 behind.
internet -> Toshiba PCX 1100 -> Non-Linksys Router -> RT31P2
Any suggestions for a non-Linksys router?
Thanks, |

How about a commercial (non-Vonage) Linksys router, wired or wireless, your choice. There are also some from Netgear, D-Link, and others. I have experience with several of the Linksys, and they are the terrific in my opinion. I use VPN through all of my Linksys routers. |

I swear by Netgear. I love them and recomend them to my clients.
Tell me what you are looking for in a router and I can help you out.
Drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

Does that mean I could still use my BEFSR41 and it will work with the VPN?
It does mean that I'll have to put it front of my Vonage router though, and I spent hours on the phone with the Vonage tech trying to do that and surrendered to the simplest solution of using just the Vonage.
How much effort do you think that will be?
Thanks, Meantone |

No effort at all. I have my Vonage box behind my BEFSR81 and it works as well as it would out in front, and VPN works flawlessly. You might need to prioritize your Vonage service in the Linksys's QOS page, but that is a set it and forget it task. If the Linksys doesn't have QOS then you might need later firmware, but that too is a piece of cake. |

My Vonage-Linksys does have the QOS setting. Will the fact that my Vonage-Linksys has an IP of 192.168.15.1 cause any problems if I add the BEFSR41? How do I set that up?
Modem <- BEFSR41 (192.168.1.1) <- RT31P2 (DHCP) ?? |

I know that the Vonage Linksys box has QOS, but you'll need to set it on the BEFSR41, but I'm not sure it has QOS in the firmware, you'll need to look. As far as IP addresses, the Vonage Linksys can get it from the BEFSR41 or you can assign it a static IP, whatever you like. |
