Hi, we are unable to fax using Vonage. We reset our fax machines to 9600bd or lower per their suggestion, still nothing. Outgoing goes about 50% of the time, absolutely nothing comes in though. We have tried multiple fax machines, as well as plugging the ATA device directly into the cable modem. Per their suggestion, we even took the ATA and fax to another location that has broadband, with no luck there. Line quality is set to high.
Any other suggestions? I don;t think I'll be able to recommend their service at all for businesses unless I can get this resolved. |

You might want to try adjusting the line quality setting. Setting it to "high" doesn't set the line quality level.... it tells the fax machine how hard to negotiate the connection before giving up. Setting it to low will allow more time for the T.30 tones to negotiate the connection. Give that a try, and it doesn't improve, please answer these questions:
1) What brand fax machine are you currently using (I know you've used several, but let's baseline).
2) Can you establish when the connection fails? Is it in the middle of the transmission or is it early in the negotiation phase?
Good luck! |

Hello:
Mine's not a "true business" fax, but I pay the $10 extra for a dedicated fax line. I've got an HP G85 and broadband. I had no trouble in the beginning. Then I had a period where long faxes going out would drop. Then things settled down and seem fine. I don't have the ability to change the baud rate, so I was pretty much stuck with whatever the HP wanted. I did turn off auto error correction during the times it was really dropping out.
It's stable now. I don't get a lot of fax traffic either way, though, since my business fax is now forwarded to an EFAX virtual line and I receive those via email.
Good luck. It seems that line quality -- the line coming into your facility -- makes a big difference in faxing, though. I had trouble with my fax even on a POTS when the lines were bad.
