Ok after 4 days of continuos testing (there go my 100 minutes of fax service) I think I found what the problem with the faxing is. Too bad I cant say that for sure so I would need people to check this and post here. 1. Keep in mind I got the router from Vonage, bought in store might be different. 2. searching over and over I found LOTS of people with problems with QOS, if they turn it off then they CAN browse the web when using Vonage, if they leave it on then they CANT browse the net while in a calls. 3. I also found lot of people with fax problems. Most are blamed to the ISP they use or the fax machine they use. So it sounds to really be an issue with bandwidth. 4. After making changes to the QOS setting it seemed like I was able to fax 100% of the time, I just set it to a "normal" setting like 100kbps.... . YEEEAHHH fax works... or no? 5. After getting my fax working I noticed that I wasn't able to use the web AT ALL while making a call or a fax. Same problem people complained about when they turned on QOS. Well I had just changed QOS but didnt had problems before at a higher rating. 6. So I decided to lower the QOS more down to 50kbps, same deal. Then I decided to just place it back at the 256kbps default. YEAH! I get internet while placing calls again... but, fax is screwed up AGAIN! ARGH!! So here is my theory, the routers are bad and QOS over 256kbps is really not doing a thing at all so fax calls are failing since bandwidth is not being separated for the call... set it to something lower like 100kbps like I did and it just takes up all the bandwidth no matter what setting you use. This is something that make me think the router NEEDS to be replaced/fixed and I will surely be calling Vonage tomorrow morning for a replacement. If anyone can test this so I have more "proof" of this being the case I would highly appreciate it. Vonage - If this is the case then get you crap in gear, either get us new routers or a new firmware that fixes this. As far as I can tell this problem has been going on A LONG time.

Ok I was on the phone with Vonage right now and I got someone who actually knew what they were talking! (unlike the first 2 times I called which had me scratching my head)
Well the QOS setting works by LEAVING that setting for your net connection, I thought that is what it separated for the voice and fax bandwidth.
I passed through the "they made a change to the system" and everything worked fine phase now so I dont know what to tell you guys besides call them until you get someone who knows. |
