Has anyone come across a Northern Electric NE-104B as a NID in their home wiring? I can't find any documentation on it and want to disconnect the bell wiring so I can route the Voip from my PAP2 through the house.

The photos are hosted here:

Inside the box there are:

- Five sets of paired wires with Blue/Blue-White, Orange/Orange-White, and Green/Green-White pairs
- Three of them are fully connected, one doesn't have the orange pair connected, and one doesn't have the blue pair connected.

- Two sets of red, green, yellow, black solid colored wires. One doesn't have the yellow and black connected, the other doesn't have the black connected.

- A black wire with a red, green, blue, orange, grey, and four solid white wires coming out of it.

I believe the black wire is the incoming line from the telco and the rest are the phone jacks. I can dig around each of the jacks to see which wires are being used as the first pair. The question I have is does anyone know how this box works in terms of what has to be tied where? The goal is to disconnect the outside line and bring in the Voip over the house wiring.

Hi, ok, i took a look at your photos, I soomed in to try and take a better look but still hard to see whats goign on w/o being there in person..

anyways, what it looks like, is that they used those non-standard coloured wires to run from each of your jacks to the NID, and ran the regular coloured(black, yellow, red, green) wires from te outside box into your inside box..

I would first trace the wire with those R,G,Y,B wires in it back and see if it heads outside, if so, then you can d/c those wires..

a questions for you first tho,
as it is right now with Bell, do all your phone jacks work? and on ONE line? if so then thats all you'll likely need to do is d/c your R,G,Y,B wires, mainly the R and G ones, but do Y and B to be sure, and you should be set, plug in your ATA and you should have Vonage all over your house Very Happy

Keep it simple:

Don't bother with the box.

Go to your demarc point and simply replace the Bell line with a connection to your Vonage Router.

You may need a voltage booster depending on the number of handsets connected. I believe there was a thread in here earlier with a link to one.

If you don't have a demarc point - call Bell and tell them you want one. The will come and do it for free.
