Well, a few months ago service went flaky on the older Cisco device I was using from an original Vonage account. They sent me a replacement Friday and I installed it and whammo, the RT31P2 had my Vonage access restored. Segue to Saturday and boom it drops out again on the voice service but the internet is working fine. I go through and resegment out my network to make sure there are no hidden gotchas as far as the routing and then start nosing around about the firmware. It is sitting at 1.28 but I am not sure if it came in with 1.27. I am not even getting a generated dial-tone and when I go to the voice portion of the config, it tells me the router is still restarting. Try to power off and back on with and without cables attached...nothing helps.

Is it possible they pushed out a firmware that hung up but only on the voice piece? I really detest not having an option to upgrade or not if that is the case. What is the link to manually grab the firmware? The TFTP link seems to be a bit flaky but not sure if it is just slow and with no reporting on the progress, I can just wait it out maybe.

Anyway, any help will be appreciated.

This service seems a lot flakier now than when I started with it and it is giving me pause. Lets hope they stabilize as they grow instead of growing too fast, as most companies do, and creating a whole host of issues for those of us that have supported them the whole time.

Tried manually flashing with both images available and it fails. I also tried to reset both with the external button and the internal. It still tells me the voice portion of the router is waiting on a restart.

Bleh!

Any ideas? The thought of having to spend yet more time trying to talk to more level one people who can simply not understand English before they forward me to level 2 again is simply not appealing.

definitely possible and has happened before. what's the power light doing? the only thing I've seen to tell you (besides needing another one) is this particular reset if you haven't done it yet:
unplug power, unplug phone cords, push and hold reset button, plug power back in while holding reset button, keep holding reset button for 15 seconds after powering back on. keep an eye on the power light, and don't plug the phones back in (or power the box off) until it stops blinking.

It is solid. It flashes like it is supposed to on reset etc. They are sending me another one but man this is frustrating at this point. You folks gotta figure out how to get those level one people on a communication plane that works for your consumers.

Thanks for the response. I will try your hard reset thing one more time but it did not work the few times I tried it. It throws a weird error when you try and set it back to factory defaults from the admin so that is really the only way I was able to get it reset to begin with.

It seems like the voice piece on the router just flipped out. It serves internet fine from any segment I put it on. Updates flowing down on the same port as the service itself? If not, what port? Tempted to block that update at the edge to keep from getting flashed to a not working state.

Thanks again for the response Reebok and I am open to any more suggestions.
